Story Missions
1. Overview
To reach the ending of GTA 5 Story Mode, you have to finish 50 story missions. To finish the main story, you also have to complete two side missions. Finish the Strangers and Freaks mission Pulling Favors to unlock Chop and Marriage Counseling. You also have to clear The Hotel Assassination, one of Lester's assassination missions, before the story can continue.
The heists where you pick the approach yourself are The Jewel Store Job, The Merryweather Heist, The Bureau Raid, and The Big Score. The Paleto Score lets you pick only the crew, with no approach choice. Because the setup missions change with the approach you choose, one playthrough cannot finish every setup mission. You can pick an approach you skipped from Replay Mission. If you also want to play another approach inside the story itself, keep a separate save from just before the heist planning stage.
You can add heist crew members through random events. In the Crash Rescue random event after The Jewel Store Job, drive the injured Taliana Martinez to Sandy Shores before the timer runs out and you can hire her as a getaway driver. Taliana's cut is only 5%, so she is a cheap way to keep more of the heist payout. In the Getaway Driver random event, help the two fleeing robbers reach their destination and you can hire Packie McReary as a gunman, and Packie is a skilled gunman you can also use on The Jewel Store Job.
Michael's temporary red Premier in the middle of the story can be modified, but it disappears for good once you finish Monkey Business, and Michael's car goes back to the Tailgater.
Accept the optional missions Michael's family requests by phone when you can, because declining one may mean you cannot do it later. If you decline The Good Husband, the mission where Amanda asks for help, the lawyer fees come out of Michael's account.
At the end you choose ending A, B, or C. After you finish the game, you can watch the other endings from Replay Mission in the pause menu, but the ending you pick there does not change the story you are already playing. Choosing ending A kills Trevor, and choosing ending B kills Michael, so you cannot do that character's side missions after the ending. If you want to see how all three endings turn out, copy the save from just before the ending choice into several slots.
2. Gold Medal Tips
To earn a gold medal, you have to hit the goals set for each mission.
- Replay Mission
- It is more efficient to check the goals you missed last time and focus the plan on those.
- You can bring the weapons and stats you built up through the story, so a replay can be easier than the first run.
- Checkpoints
- If you continue from a checkpoint after failing, the time and accuracy goals are void and you cannot get the gold medal.
- If a mission has a time or accuracy goal, start over from the beginning when you fail.
- Time-limit goals
- On a mission with a time-limit goal, skip every cutscene.
- Recommended weapon
- The AP Pistol is a fully automatic pistol with high accuracy and light recoil, so it is useful for accuracy and headshot goals.
- The magazine holds 18 rounds, and an extended magazine holds 36.
- Holding the button fires in a burst, so tap one shot at a time if you need to protect your accuracy.
- Special ability
- It helps with accuracy goals, and some goals require you to use it for a set time, so do not save the bar.
- Effects by character
- Michael: Slows time during on-foot combat and raises your aim accuracy.
- Franklin: Slows time while driving, and it also works when you shoot from inside a car.
- Trevor: Slows time a little, doubles your damage, and you cannot die while it is active.
- How to fill the bar
- Michael: Fill it with headshots or stealth kills.
- Franklin: It fills when you narrowly miss other cars at high speed or drive the wrong way.
- Trevor: It fills when you land a headshot or take damage.
3. Story Missions
3.1. Prologue
This first mission switches between Michael and Trevor. It has no gold medal goals, and you cannot be arrested in this mission.
- Inside the bank
- The hostages go into the room one at a time, starting with the person you point the gun at.
- If you shoot even one hostage, you fail.
- The moment you grab the cash, a guard grabs Michael, so switch to Trevor and aim for the head.
- If it is not a headshot, or if you hesitate, Michael dies.
- Escape shootout
- When you are told to take cover in front of the exit, take cover first so Brad can plant the bomb on the door.
- If you get too far ahead of the crew, a message tells you to get back, and if you ignore it and keep moving away, you have to try again.
- You do not have to kill the last two police blocking the getaway car yourself, and if you leave them the crew usually handles them.
- You cannot get in the car until every officer is down.
- Getaway driving
- Follow only the minimap route.
- If you turn back or leave the route, you fail, and if you get out of the car you fail 10 seconds later no matter the distance.
- Final stretch
- Whether Trevor fights the police or drops cover and runs, it leads into the same cutscene.
- On replay
- Cutscenes you could not skip on the first run can be skipped in Replay Mission.
- Ways to fail
- Getaway car destroyed, stuck in the snow, or abandoned
- Leave the route or the helicopter pickup
- Leave the crew behind
- Michael, Trevor, or Brad dies
- A hostage dies or escapes
- Out of ammo
3.2. Franklin and Lamar
It starts right after the prologue. As Franklin, you repossess a car, race Lamar, and hand the car over to the dealership.
- Picking a car
- The story is the same whether you take the red convertible or the white one, and only the talk inside the car changes.
- If you keep moving away from Lamar without picking a car, you fail.
- The race with Lamar
- If you fall too far behind Lamar, you fail. Getting out of the car during the race also fails you.
- Hitting the actor at the movie studio, or losing the race, does not fail the mission, and you only miss the gold medal.
- Losing the police
- When you reach the finish, you get a two-star wanted level.
- The easiest way is to get out of the police's sight and hide in the alley near the dealership.
- Wrap-up
- After you hand the car to the dealership, get in Franklin's personal car and park it in his home garage to finish, and the payout is $250.
- Gold medal
- Deliver the repossessed car with almost no damage
- Use the special ability for at least 7 seconds
- Win the race against Lamar
- Of the two tunnels in front of the finish, go in the left one instead of the right one Lamar takes, and use the special ability to pass him.
- Do not hit the alien actor at the movie studio
- Fail conditions
- Franklin dies or is busted, or Lamar dies
- You drive off without Lamar or lose him
- The police are called, or you bring the police to the dealership
- The repossessed car is destroyed, abandoned, or stuck, or Lamar's car is badly damaged
- You cause a scene at the dealership, drive into the dealership, interrupt Simeon's deal, or Simeon dies
3.3. Repossession
With Lamar, you repossess a Vagos member's motorcycle. You can take any of the three cars in front of the dealership, or drive your own car to Vespucci Beach.
- Alley and garages
- Follow Lamar over the fence and walk to the end of the alley. If you cause a scene in the alley or break a door, you fail.
- There are three garages. Open the largest one first and you go straight to the next step.
- Shootout with the Vagos
- If you have no weapon, pick up the pistol on the ground first.
- It is better to take cover by the garage exit for the first two.
- The enemy with the pump shotgun hits hard, so be careful.
- When the blue car drives off leaking fuel, shoot the fuel trail to blow up the car with it.
- Motorcycle chase
- Near the exit, shoot the owner off the bike the moment he turns and you skip the whole chase.
- If you miss him, you have to chase across the city, and leaving Lamar behind then fails the mission.
- Drive the motorcycle to the car wash in Strawberry to finish.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 6 minutes 30 seconds
- Shoot the fuel trail
- Kill 6 enemies with headshots
- Keep your shot accuracy at 70% or higher
- Ways to fail
- Franklin dies or is busted, or Lamar or Simeon dies
- You leave Lamar behind
- You cause a scene at the showroom, or the police are called
- You break a door and a neighbor notices
- The motorcycle's owner escapes, or the motorcycle is destroyed or abandoned
3.4. Complications
This is a stealth mission where you enter the mansion unseen and take Jimmy's car. Later, as Michael, you fight Simeon with your fists. When you finish, you can control Michael.
- Entering the mansion
- After you climb the wall, sneak up on the gardener and knock him out with a stealth attack.
- You do not need to touch the door. Climb straight onto the truck and go into the house.
- Inside the house, running while aimed lets you move fastest without being seen.
- Pass the kitchen and take the car out of the garage.
- Michael in the back seat
- Michael, who was hiding in the back seat, tells you to go to the dealership. If you do not follow him, you fail.
- When you arrive at the dealership, the next order is to drive the car through the glass.
- The fight with Simeon
- From here it is Michael's turn. Beat Simeon down.
- If you leave during the fight, you are told to get back to the dealership before the police arrive, and if you keep running you fail.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 5 minutes
- Finish the fight without Simeon landing a single hit
- Turn on the special ability just before the fight and keep throwing punches without a break, and Simeon never gets a counter in.
- Knock out the gardener with a stealth attack
- Reasons for failure
- Franklin or Michael dies or is busted
- The family spots you, or you kill a family member or the tennis coach
- Jimmy's car is destroyed
- You ignore Michael's orders, or you run from the fight
- You interrupt Simeon's deal, damage the dealership, the police are called, Simeon calls the police, or Simeon dies
3.5. Father/Son
It opens after you finish Complications, and you can start as either Michael or Franklin. This is a chase where you save Jimmy, trapped on a stolen yacht, from the freeway.
- Chasing the yacht
- Michael drives Amanda's car to Pacific Bluffs.
- Pull the car alongside the yacht on the trailer and Franklin steps onto the hood and crosses onto the yacht.
- When you are told to shoot the thieves, shoot then.
- Saving Jimmy
- The boom swings out and Jimmy hangs over the road. Pull the car tight underneath and Jimmy drops into the back seat.
- Then stay tight behind the yacht so Franklin can jump down onto the hood.
- If you do not save both of them in time, or you lose the yacht before that, you fail.
- Repairs and the ride home
- The engine dies and the chase stops here, and you head to the nearby Los Santos Customs.
- Then, as Franklin, fix Amanda's car and take Jimmy to Michael's house to finish. The $2,000 payout goes to Franklin only.
- Gold medal
- Save Jimmy within 10 seconds
- As soon as you see Jimmy, get under the boom and hold that spot steadily while avoiding other cars.
- Deliver Amanda's car with almost no damage
- Reasons for failure
- Michael or Franklin dies or is busted, or Jimmy dies
- Franklin falls behind
- Amanda's car is destroyed, abandoned, or stuck, or the repair fails
- You do not save everyone in time, or you lose the yacht before the rescue
3.6. Marriage Counseling
It opens only after you finish both Father/Son and Pulling Favors. Michael chases the tennis coach with Franklin, then pulls a house down with the truck winch.
- Chasing the tennis coach
- Get in the truck and follow the coach's car.
- You lose him for a moment, then find the coach's car again in front of a nearby house. Then go to that house in the canyon.
- If you attack the coach or scare him, you fail.
- The house in the canyon
- Franklin ties the winch cable to the house's support pillar and you get back in the truck. When Michael accelerates, the pillar gives way and the house comes down.
- Madrazo's men
- On the way back to Michael's house, Madrazo's men chase you. You have to lose all of them.
- Gold medal
- Drive the truck with almost no damage
- Do not ram other cars, and do not take a shortcut.
- Finish within 5 minutes 30 seconds
- Kill 3 enemies from inside a vehicle
- Killing them as Franklin during the chase counts, and a sticky bomb is fine if you have one. Kills as Michael count too.
- Ways to fail
- Michael or Franklin dies or is busted
- Franklin falls behind
- The truck is destroyed or stuck
- The tennis coach is attacked, scared, or killed
3.7. Chop
This Franklin mission opens after you finish Pulling Favors. With Lamar and Chop, you catch D. There is no cash payout, and when it ends Chop stays at Franklin's house.
- Walking with Lamar
- The map does not mark the destination, so follow Lamar on foot to the alley.
- If you draw police attention while walking, or you keep moving away from Lamar, you fail.
- Once you get in the van, wait until Lamar loads Chop, then drive to Vinewood Boulevard.
- Chasing D
- D flees on a motorcycle, and you cannot knock him off or pass him with the van.
- When a bus hits D at the bus terminal and he goes down, chase him on foot to the rail yard. At the terminal, watch that moving cars and buses do not hit you.
- Searching the freight cars
- The first two freight cars are empty.
- If Chop gets distracted by another dog, calling him does not bring him back. Walk over and pull them apart yourself.
- D is hiding in the northernmost freight car of the last three, the one Chop barks at.
- In this stretch you can switch to Chop and see his view, but you cannot control him.
- Going home
- After Lamar makes the ransom call, you have to stop the van and let D out. If you keep driving, you get a two-star wanted level, and you have to lose the police before you can let D out.
- Drop Lamar off at the recreation center to finish.
- Gold medal
- Drive Lamar's van with almost no damage
- Several buses show up during the chase. Use the special ability to avoid crashes.
- Watch from Chop's view for at least 10 seconds
- Switch while Chop is searching the freight cars, and leave it that way until he runs at the other dog.
- Use the special ability for at least 7 seconds
- Fail conditions
- Franklin dies or is busted
- Lamar or Chop dies, or you leave one of them behind
- D notices you, dies, or escapes
- The van is destroyed, abandoned, or stuck
- You draw police attention near Franklin's house
3.8. Daddy's Little Girl
This Michael mission opens after you finish both Marriage Counseling and Chop. After a bike race with Jimmy you bring Tracey back from a yacht offshore, and finishing the mission unlocks the triathlon.
- Bike race
- At the rental shop on Vespucci Beach, pick a bike and race Jimmy to the pier.
- You do not have to win the race. It is better to ride slowly so you do not fall.
- If you startle the rental clerk or wreck the bike, you fail.
- Swimming to the yacht
- Jump off the pier and swim to the yacht. Going underwater is faster than swimming on the surface.
- Seashark getaway
- When you flee on the Seashark with Tracey, the yacht owner's party shoots at you as they chase.
- Lose the chasers or kill them, then return to the beach to finish.
- Gold medal
- Reach top speed on the Seashark
- Lean forward and you stay on the water and keep accelerating. Run parallel to the shoreline and the waves will not bounce you up.
- Focus on losing the chasers rather than shooting them.
- Do not fall off the bike
- Do not hit pedestrians, and pass walls, obstacles, and stairs carefully.
- Swim to the yacht within 1 minute
- Raise Michael's stamina stat and it gets easier.
- Reasons for failure
- Michael dies or is busted
- Jimmy or Tracey dies, is hurt, or is scared, or you leave them behind
- The rental clerk dies or is scared, or the bike is damaged
- Michael's bike is abandoned, stuck, or becomes unrideable
- The Seashark is destroyed or beached, or you leave the area
3.9. Friend Request
It opens after you finish Marriage Counseling. On Lester's request, Michael enters the Lifeinvader office and plants a bomb on the prototype phone. Finishing it unlocks clothing stores, and after Lester's email you can also use the stock market.
- Clothes for the disguise
- Buy the specified clothes at the Suburban clothing store in Vinewood.
- If you have no money at all, Lester sends you $200. If you cannot get the clothes, or you do not have enough money to buy them, you fail.
- Entering the office
- Wait at the back door and the programmer who steps out for a cigarette lets you in. Follow him inside.
- You have to close every pop-up before the antivirus shortcut shows. While a window is still up, pressing the antivirus does not run it.
- Plant the device on the prototype in the demo room and leave the building. If you leave before planting it, or your cover is blown, you fail.
- The demo
- Watch the presentation from home, and when Jay Norris takes out the prototype, make the call.
- If you fail to blow up the phone, you fail. Shooting without a suppressor near the house and startling Tracey does the same.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 8 minutes 30 seconds
- Using the back door on the way out of the office lets you start running sooner.
- Close every pop-up within 32 seconds
- If you turn the special ability on just before the cutscene, time slows down. Even if you do not see the effect while closing the windows, it still counts on the record.
- Ways to fail
- Michael dies or is busted
- You cannot get the disguise clothes, or you do not have enough money to buy them
- The break-in is spotted, or you leave before planting the device
- The phone fails to explode
- The police heat gets too high to do the job, or you startle Tracey
3.10. The Long Stretch
It opens after you finish Chop and Father/Son. If you did Chop after Father/Son, you also have to finish Friend Request. Franklin goes to a deal with Lamar and Stretch, then fights out of a Ballas ambush.
- Ammu-Nation
- You have to buy a pump shotgun and a flashlight attachment. If you are short on money, Lamar lends you $1,500.
- If you do not have enough money to buy them, you startle the clerk, or you are banned from Ammu-Nation, you fail.
- Escaping the recycling plant
- The deal is a Ballas ambush. Kill the enemies inside the plant as you make your way out.
- A police helicopter is hovering outside. Deal with the helicopter and get out of the scrapyard.
- Losing the police
- Steal a car on a nearby road, lose the police, and return to Franklin's house to finish.
- Look for a good hiding spot, such as the subway tunnel beside the Mile High Club or the tunnel under Mirror Park.
- Gold medal
- Keep your shot accuracy at 60% or higher
- A shotgun spreads its shot, so it is easy to land hits.
- Kill 10 enemies with headshots
- Aim for the head with the shotgun. A hit on the neck still counts as a headshot.
- Finish with as little health and body-armor damage as possible
- Until you reach the last wide room, drop enemies with automatic fire before they can shoot.
- In the last room, sticking to the right wall in cover is the safest.
- Finish within 10 minutes 30 seconds
- After you steal a car, use the special ability and you can lose the police faster.
- Reasons for failure
- Franklin dies or is busted
- Lamar or Stretch dies, or you leave them behind
- You do not have enough money for the pump shotgun and flashlight
- You are banned from Ammu-Nation, or you startle the clerk
- You abandon the deal and leave
3.11. The Jewel Store Job
This is the first heist Michael and Franklin pull. In the planning mission you pick the approach and the crew, and once you finish the setup missions for that approach you rob Vangelico.
3.11.1. Overview
- Planning: scope the jewelry store
- It opens after you finish Friend Request. Michael picks up Lester and drives to Vangelico.
- Inside the store, photograph the following with the glasses camera.
- Alarm device
- Vents and security cameras
- Then go up to the roof through the building under construction, photograph the ventilation equipment, and return to the garment factory.
- You fail in these cases.
- You enter the store with a wanted level
- You are spotted holding a weapon, or your cover is blown
- You are spotted going behind the counter or into the manager's office, or a worker spots you running on the sidewalk
- You skip the roof check
- Lester dies or you leave him behind, a store worker or guard dies, or the car is destroyed or stuck
- Gold medal
- Finish within 8 minutes
- Get all 3 security devices in one photo: looking straight at the keypad puts the three devices together in the corners of the frame.
- Approach and crew
- On the planning board at the garment factory, pick Loud or Smart. The setup missions open after you finish Daddy's Little Girl.
- For the crew, pick one driver, one gunman, and one hacker.
- Driver: Eddie (14%) guides the route and brings off-road bikes suited to the tunnel. Karim (8%) gives no guidance, and the bikes he brings struggle in the mud.
- Gunman: Gustavo (14%) and Packie (12%) do not drop jewels, and they keep the hostages under control. You have to finish a random event before you can hire Packie.
- On both approaches, Norm (7%) falls off the bike before the tunnel, drops his bag, and a death fee is charged as well.
- Hacker: before the alarm sounds, Rickie (4%) buys 50 seconds, Christian (10%) buys 1 minute, and Paige (15%) buys 1 minute 30 seconds. After Friend Request, Michael has to answer Rickie's call before you can pick him.
- The highest payout is Smart with Karim, Packie, and Rickie. Michael receives $1,223,073, and Franklin receives $293,539.
- Shared by both approaches
- You have to steal at least $3,300,000 in jewels to pay off the debt. If you come up short, you fail.
- After you grab the jewels, you get a four-star wanted level. As Franklin, follow the crew on a bike into the tunnel and through the sewer.
- Picking up the bag Norm dropped does not cut the payout, but the death fee still comes out.
- Police cars are waiting when you come out at the Los Santos River. As Michael, drive the truck, push the police cars aside, and protect the crew.
- Load the bikes onto the truck and go to Lester's warehouse to finish. Of the payout, $2,500,000 goes to Madrazo, Lester takes 14%, and Franklin takes 12%.
- The gold medal goals are the same for both approaches.
- Steal the jewels within 50 seconds: you do not need all of them, just at least $3,300,000, and you have to leave the store within 50 seconds. Shooting the glass skips the breaking animation, and turning the special ability on before you smash the cases saves more time.
- Protect Franklin in the river chase: during the chase, Franklin only has to avoid being killed by the police.
- Clear all 20 display cases: use Packie or Gustavo as the gunman, and if you picked Loud, choose Eddie as the driver.
- Both approaches fail in these cases.
- Michael or Franklin dies or is busted, or a crew member dies or is abandoned
- The jewelry store closes, the police are called, or Michael does not get out of the store before the police arrive
- The truck or a bike is destroyed, Franklin's bike is abandoned, or Franklin loses the crew
- You abandon the heist
3.11.2. Loud
This approach goes in the front door armed. The only setup mission is the carbine rifles.
- Setup: carbine rifles
- When Lester texts you, hit the police tactical team truck circling the freeway, take out the armed guards, and steal the truck.
- The moment you steal it, you get a three-star wanted level. Lose the police, then bring it to the garment factory.
- You fail if you cannot get the truck back, the truck reaches the police station, or the truck is destroyed.
- Gold medal: lose the wanted level within 2 minutes
- Steal the truck near Los Santos Customs in Burton, then duck into the nearby subway tunnel to lose them.
- The job
- Franklin drives the van and drops Michael, the driver, and the gunman off in front of the store.
- While the gunman holds the hostages, Michael and the driver clear the cases. Franklin waits outside with the bikes.
- If you pick Karim, he misses some jewels and the take drops to about $4,500,000.
- If you pick Norm, Michael has to stop the guard and the manager himself. You fail if the guard runs or the manager calls the police.
- If you leave the store before the jewels are cleared, a warning tells you to go back.
- Failure reasons only this approach has
- The van is destroyed or abandoned
- You leave Michael behind
3.11.3. Smart
This approach puts the people in the store to sleep with nerve gas, then you go in. There are two setup missions, and you have to finish both before the job opens.
- Setup: Bugstars equipment
- Steal a van from the Bugstars warehouse in south Los Santos and drop it at the garment factory.
- Go in the front door and the workers come at you. If you have a weapon out, the workers run and you immediately get a two-star wanted level.
- Sneak around the back and drop one worker with a stealth attack or a suppressed-pistol headshot, and you can drive the van out without being spotted.
- Gold medal: steal the van without being spotted
- Knock out the driver of the middle van and get out the back fast. If you drive the car close to the worker at the back, he hears it and spots you.
- You fail in these cases.
- The van is destroyed, stuck, or undrivable
- You leave the van behind, or you abandon the mission
- Setup: nerve gas grenade
- Follow the Humane Labs van marked on the map and steal the van itself, or shoot the rear doors and take only the cargo.
- Lose the police, then bring it to the garment factory to finish.
- Gold medal: shoot the rear doors open and take the cargo
- On the freeway, shoot the rear doors with a machine gun, and get clear as soon as they open. You get a one-star wanted level, and killing a guard makes it two stars.
- You fail if the van gets away, or you miss the cargo or leave it behind.
- The job
- Michael drops Franklin off at the construction site by car, and the driver and gunman park the Bugstars van in front of the store.
- As Franklin, cross the roofs and throw the nerve gas into the vent from the high point you climbed during the scoping.
- Once the gas spreads, Michael, the driver, and the gunman clear the cases, and Franklin goes to get the bikes.
- If you pick Norm, he drops a lot of jewels and the take drops to about $4,500,000.
- Failure reasons only this approach has
- You enter the store before throwing the gas
- The nerve gas spreads into the street and the police notice, or Franklin runs out of nerve gas
- A van or car is destroyed, a car is abandoned, or you leave Franklin behind
3.12. Mr Philips
It opens after you finish The Jewel Store Job, and it is the first time you control Trevor directly. You wipe out the Lost MC chapter in Blaine County, then go after Ortega of the Aztecas. For a while you cannot switch to Michael or Franklin, who are lying low after The Jewel Store Job. Franklin has to finish Friends Reunited, and Michael has to finish Fame or Shame, before you can pick them again.
- Grapeseed chase
- It starts at Michael's house, but you control Trevor. Ride with Ron and Wade in the truck to Grapeseed and meet Terry, Clay, and a group of bikers.
- When the talk ends, the bikers flee toward their hideout in a van, with two bikes escorting the van. Stay with them all the way and do not lose them.
- Trailer park cleanup
- At the trailer park where the van stops, you have to leave no Lost members alive.
- When the cleanup is done, Wade is told to look for Michael and leaves. Trevor heads to Ortega's trailer with Ron.
- Ortega's trailer
- Push the trailer with the truck and dump it in the river beside it.
- Then you choose whether to kill Ortega or spare him. If you spare him, he shows up again in the next mission, Trevor Philips Industries. In Replay Mission, either choice is treated as if you spared him.
- Go to Trevor's trailer in Sandy Shores to finish.
- Gold medal
- Kill every fleeing biker
- Clear the enemies on the road at the park's left entrance first, then push into the middle. At most three bikers are left at the end, and they show as blinking marks on the map. They do not fight back.
- 12 headshots
- Finish within 12 minutes
- Deal $5,000 of damage to Ortega's trailer
- Do not let off the accelerator until the trailer rolls down the slope and is fully underwater.
- Kill Terry and Clay during the chase
- When the chase starts, go for the two bikes escorting the van first. Once you are inside the park, they are easy to miss.
- Reasons for failure
- Trevor dies or is busted, or Ron or Wade dies or you leave them behind
- Trevor's truck is destroyed
- The bikers get scared or flee, or every driver is dead and you cannot chase any further
- You leave the trailer park early
- You leave without threatening Ortega, or you kill Ortega too early
3.13. Trevor Philips Industries
It opens after you finish Mr Philips. While Trevor is taking his buyer Tao Cheng and the translator away, the Aztecas hit the meth lab in Sandy Shores. It is a defense where you hold the lab with Chef.
- Head to the lab
- As soon as you meet Tao Cheng and the translator at the Yellow Jack Inn, Chef calls to report the Azteca attack.
- When you reach the Liquor Ace building where the lab is, Trevor puts the two of them in the freezer.
- Azteca defense
- The enemies come in several waves, and Chef fights with you.
- If you spared Ortega in the last mission, he joins the attack and Trevor kills him. If you killed him, another member takes that role.
- When Chef calls you, follow him outside the building, then keep following Chef as he moves.
- If a Phoenix or Dubsta 2 the enemies arrived in is still there and has not exploded, you can take it.
- When the fight ends, go to the freezer to finish. The freed translator refuses the deal and leaves with Tao.
- Gold medal
- Kill 32 enemies
- In the last fight, stay out of the store, go out to the road, and blow up the fleeing Phoenix too.
- Finish with as little health and body-armor damage as possible
- Stay in cover, and clear them with grenades or a grenade launcher before they get close.
- Destroy 6 vehicles
- There are several gas canisters on the west side where the fight starts, and only there can you blow up four or more vehicles. Make up the rest with the two cars that flee at the end.
- Finish within 4 minutes 30 seconds
- Reasons for failure
- You fail in these cases.
- Trevor dies or is busted
- Chef dies
- Tao Cheng or the translator dies, or you leave them behind
- You leave the lab
3.14. Nervous Ron
It opens after you finish Mr Philips. Trevor, whose trailer the Lost MC robbed, hits Sandy Shores Airfield with Ron and steals an arms shipment plane. You receive $62,680 as the reward.
- Stop at Ammu-Nation
- From in front of the trailer, take a quad bike to the Ammu-Nation on Algonquin Boulevard. Ron takes another quad and leaves first for the lookout.
- Trevor bullies the clerk Melvin into handing over a sniper rifle, an advanced scope, and a suppressor for free. If you point a weapon at Melvin, you are banned and you fail. Leaving the store without taking the sniper rifle fails the same way.
- Water tower sniping
- Meet Ron at the water tower north of the airfield and climb to the top. When night falls, Ron sneaks into the airfield, and Trevor snipes the bikers on watch.
- While Ron plants a bomb on the fuel tank, an enemy helicopter takes off. Shoot the pilot and the helicopter crashes, and the noise brings the Lost down on you.
- Gunfight on the wing
- While Ron taxis a Cuban 800 out of the hangar, Trevor lies on the wing, detonates the bomb, and shoots the bikers. Your weapon switches to an assault rifle on its own.
- Trevor, running down the runway, jumps off the wing, gets in another Cuban 800, and takes off.
- Cargo drop and race
- Follow Ron out over the sea and drop the cargo near the waiting boat. Do as Ron says and fly low so the military base does not spot you.
- After the drop, race Ron to McKenzie Field. You finish when you arrive.
- Gold medal
- 5 headshots
- It is easy to get them while sniping from the water tower, where you shoot from one spot.
- Finish within 12 minutes 30 seconds
- Beat Ron in the race
- When the race starts, Ron slows down on his own. Fly low and cut across the long bends, and you can get ahead.
- Fly under 6 bridges on the flight path
- The three bridges at Cassidy Creek and the bridges toward the mouth of the Zancudo River are the easy ones. Skip the small bridge on the Zancudo River, because the gap is narrow and the plane breaks easily.
- Kill every biker while lying on the wing
- As soon as you leave the hangar, shoot the fuel tanker on the right, and deal with the enemies coming from the other side on bikes and in a van. You also cannot miss the one biker who sticks with you as you approach the second Cuban 800. He pulls ahead and runs at the plane.
- Reasons for failure
- Trevor dies or is busted, or Ron dies or you leave him behind
- Trevor's or Ron's quad is destroyed or stuck
- The Lost spots you before Ron plants the bomb, or you leave the lookout
- A Cuban 800 is destroyed or abandoned, or the landing gear is damaged
- Oscar gets scared, or you do not secure the cargo in time
3.15. Crystal Maze
It opens only after you finish both Trevor Philips Industries and Nervous Ron. You raid the O'Neil brothers' farm, who cut in on the Triad deal, and burn down the house with the underground lab.
- Yellow Jack Inn
- Go back to Tao Cheng and the translator and get out of them that they joined up with the O'Neil brothers.
- On the way to the O'Neil farm in Grapeseed, Trevor calls Elwood O'Neil and threatens him.
- Lookout on the hill
- Climb the hill overlooking the farm and 10 enemies come into view.
- Lower left: 2 playing, shooting cans with a pistol
- Left side of the ground floor: 1 drinking
- Second floor: 1 looking around, 2 talking
- Lower right: 2 talking, 2 loading a van
- If you wait too long, the two brothers who finished loading drive the van away.
- Enter the farm
- Take out the remaining enemies and go down to the underground lab. The back door gives you more cover.
- Gasoline trail and the fire
- Pick up the gasoline can in the lab, and leave an unbroken trail from the lab to outside the house.
- Shoot the trail from outside and the fire spreads until the house explodes. Before that, you have to be far enough from the farmhouse.
- Get clear of the scene to finish.
- Gold medal
- 10 headshots
- Only the 10 you can see from the hill count for headshots. Drop the two loading the van before they leave, and if you can, before they get in the car.
- Finish with as little health and body-armor damage as possible
- If you kill all 10 from the hill without being spotted, the fight afterward is much lighter.
- Kill 2 enemies with one shot
- Line up the brothers who are standing side by side talking, and shoot through both.
- Accuracy of at least 80%
- If you missed a lot earlier, switch to a weaker weapon and land more hits.
- Reasons for failure
- Trevor dies or is busted, or Tao Cheng or the translator dies
- The gasoline can is destroyed, you run out of gasoline, or the trail breaks
- You do not get out of the farmhouse when it catches fire
- You leave the farm
3.16. Friends Reunited
It opens after you finish Crystal Maze. Before leaving for Los Santos, Trevor sneaks into the Lost trailer park in Stab City and blows it up with sticky bombs. Finishing this mission lets you pick Franklin again in Free Mode, and Ammu-Nation sells sticky bombs.
- Infiltrate the trailer park
- Pick up Wade and go to Stab City on Calafia Road. On the way, Wade hands Trevor the weapon he was asked for earlier.
- Quietly take out the bikers and stick a sticky bomb on each trailer. You have to detonate the bombs before you leave the park.
- Shoot the lights out and you are less likely to be spotted.
- Where two bikers are bullying one person, the person being bullied only runs, and does not alert Trevor.
- Even if you kill the biker arguing with the woman inside a trailer, she only looks confused, and you are not spotted.
- To Los Santos
- After the blast, go back to Wade and set off for Los Santos. In Vinewood Hills, Trevor stops the car, climbs the hill, and looks out over the city.
- Go to Floyd's apartment on Goma Street at Vespucci Beach and follow Wade inside to finish. Floyd is Wade's cousin, and this apartment becomes Trevor's new hideout.
- Gold medal
- 5 headshots
- Aim for the head with a suppressed weapon and you can get them without being spotted.
- Destroy the trailers without being spotted
- Destroy the trailers all at once
- Do not detonate until every bomb is planted.
- Finish with as little health and body-armor damage as possible
- If you stay quiet the whole way, the gunfight never starts.
- Reasons for failure
- Trevor dies or is busted, or Wade dies or you leave him behind
- The Lost spots you too early
- You leave the trailer park, or you run out of sticky bombs
3.17. Fame or Shame
It opens after you finish Friends Reunited. Trevor shows up unannounced at Michael's house, and the two of them crash Tracey's audition and chase Lazlow as he runs. Finishing it lets you control Michael again.
- To the audition
- After Jimmy says Tracey went to the Fame or Shame audition, Michael and Trevor head to the Maze Bank Arena in La Puerta.
- Inside the arena, Lazlow Jones puts Tracey in front of the judges. When Lazlow joins Tracey's dance, the two of them storm the stage, and Lazlow runs out of the arena.
- Lazlow chase
- The car you arrived in has already been towed. Steal the Phantom truck nearby and chase Lazlow, who is driving a red Dilettante.
- The chase across town stops in the Los Santos storm drain when the Dilettante runs out of fuel.
- Trevor makes Lazlow take his pants off and dance, then warns him not to touch Tracey again. When Lazlow runs, the two split up, and Michael agrees to meet Dave Norton at the Galileo Observatory.
- Gold medal
- Reach top speed in the Phantom
- Build speed on the straight stretch of Hawick and Davis Avenue. Detaching the trailer improves acceleration, but you miss the goal for keeping the trailer.
- Stay right on Lazlow for the whole chase
- Lazlow only has to stay inside the camera view the whole time. If you drive as Trevor, third person is easier than first person. Watch the traffic-light poles and the railway, but ram light obstacles that cannot stop the truck.
- Knock out the event staffer
- Punch down the man shouting with a clipboard beside the parking space.
- Do not detach the trailer
- Do not press the detach prompt even when it appears, and do not hit oncoming cars or jackknife the truck.
- Reasons for failure
- You fail in these cases.
- Michael or Trevor dies or is busted
- Tracey or Lazlow dies, or Lazlow escapes
- Lazlow's car is destroyed, or the truck is destroyed or stuck
- You disrupt the audition
3.18. The Hotel Assassination
This is Lester's assassination mission, and it opens after you finish Fame or Shame. You have to clear it to move on to Blitz Play. Franklin kills Brett Lowrey, head of Bilkington Research, and the reward is $9,000.
- Buy stock before you start
- Put all three protagonists' money into Betta Pharmaceuticals on BAWSAQ. A few in-game hours after you finish the mission, or after you sleep once, it rises about 50%. After about another 24 hours, the price starts to fall.
- Put the money you made back into Bilkington Research. The recommended schedule is as follows.
- Monday: buy Betta Pharmaceuticals, finish the mission
- By Tuesday: sell Betta Pharmaceuticals
- By Friday: buy Bilkington Research
- After next Monday: sell Bilkington Research
- Meet Lester
- After Lester's text, go to the meeting spot near Del Perro Pier. Lester explains how to move the stock price and tells you the target.
- Assassination outside the hotel
- Go to the Von Crastenburg Hotel in Richman and wait for Lowrey to come out. Lester suggests two methods.
- Shoot him with a sniper rifle
- Stick a sticky bomb to Lowrey's car and blow up the car with him in it
- Get clear of the scene after the kill. If you have a wanted level, you have to lose it to finish. Afterward, Lester gives Franklin the house in Vinewood Hills.
- Gold medal
- Kill the target with a sniper rifle
- When checkout time comes, Lowrey walks out from the right. He is the only person not wearing a suit. Hit his chest, neck, or head, then leave the parking lot on the side opposite the hotel. You can also shoot from the top floor of the parking lot and go down the ramp.
- Reasons for failure
- Franklin dies or is busted
- You attack Lester
- Franklin is identified, or the guards notice because of your vehicle
- The target escapes, or you abandon the mission
See Lester's Assassination for the other assassination missions.
3.19. Dead Man Walking
It opens after you finish Fame or Shame. On Dave Norton's request, Michael is delivered to the coroner's office the IAA is guarding while playing dead, and he checks on Ferdinand Kerimov, who was announced dead.
- Galileo Observatory
- After talking with Dave, Michael is hit with a baton and passes out.
- Wearing body armor beforehand makes the fight afterward much easier. If you are still in the story, there is one near the observatory.
- Search the coroner's office
- You wake up in a body bag at the coroner's office in Strawberry. You have to get up before the coroner cuts you open. If you are late, Michael dies and you fail.
- Choke one coroner and the other runs. Drop the guard who shows up soon with a stealth attack.
- As you check the bodies, you find one tagged with Kerimov's name, but she is a Black woman, so it is not him.
- Escape the coroner's office
- When the guards pile in, fight through the ground floor, go up to the second floor, and get your clothes and weapons back.
- Shoot out a window and jump down into the dumpster below. Grab a car such as a Felon or a Baller and lose the police.
- Meet Franklin
- After you lose the wanted level, go to the oil derrick in El Burro Heights and meet Franklin.
- When the talk ends and Franklin leaves, you finish.
- Gold medal
- Accuracy of at least 70%
- A low-damage weapon lands more hits, so your accuracy goes up.
- 14 headshots
- Turn on the special ability and aim for the head. Each headshot also fills the gauge fast.
- Finish within 9 minutes 30 seconds
- Skip the cutscenes, and when you escape, slip out toward the back door of the coroner's office to avoid the police. A Felon lets you get away fast.
- Kill 4 enemies with the special ability
- Finish with as little health and body-armor damage as possible
- Stay in cover the whole time, and do not pick up weapons or body armor until you have dropped every enemy on the last floor.
- Reasons for failure
- Michael dies or is busted, or Franklin dies
- You go to Franklin while a wanted level is still active
3.20. Did Somebody Say Yoga?
It opens after you finish Dead Man Walking. Michael learns yoga from Fabien, then goes out with Jimmy, gets drugged, and hallucinates. Finishing this mission lets you do yoga as an activity.
- Three yoga poses
- While Michael is at home talking with Amanda about Trevor, Fabien comes in, suggests yoga, and the three of them go out to the yard.
- Follow Fabien and take these poses in order.
- Warrior pose
- Triangle pose
- Sun salutation
- If you cannot do the yoga properly, you fail for not reaching enlightenment.
- When the three poses are done, Fabien shows a fourth pose with Amanda. Michael gets angry, throws a punch, and falls in the pool, and Amanda and Fabien leave the house.
- Going out with Jimmy
- Go to Jimmy's room and ask him to come out with you. Take Michael's Tailgater to the Burger Shot near the Vespucci Canals and pick up an item from Jimmy's friend.
- On the way back, drink the drink Jimmy hands you and the hallucination starts. You end up stopping the car, and Jimmy makes Michael get out, then drives off.
- Hallucination and the way home
- The hallucination runs through a troop of chimpanzees and an alien abduction, then a fall from the sky over Los Santos.
- When you wake up in your underwear, go home. Check the note Amanda left in the kitchen to finish. The whole family has left the house.
- After the mission, Jimmy texts that he took $5,000 from Michael's account.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 15 minutes
- Skip the cutscenes, and in the falling hallucination tuck your body down so you hit the ground faster.
- Finish each of the three yoga poses with no mistakes
- Each pose has its own requirement. While you hold a pose, do not let go of the input.
- Reasons for failure
- Michael dies or is busted, or Amanda or Fabien dies
- You fail the yoga
- Jimmy dies or you leave him behind, or Jimmy's friend dies or gets scared
- The Tailgater is destroyed, abandoned, or stuck
3.21. Three's Company
It opens after you finish Dead Man Walking, and it is the first mission where all three protagonists move together. On the FIB's orders, you pull Ferdinand Kerimov out of IAA headquarters by helicopter. Finishing it puts a Frogger at Trevor's airfield, and you can use the AP Pistol and the Heavy Sniper.
- FIB headquarters and the warehouse
- You meet Dave Norton, Steve Haines, and Andreas Sanchez in front of FIB headquarters. Haines tells you to pull Kerimov out before he tells the IAA about the FIB's corruption.
- While you ride Dave's car to the FIB warehouse in El Burro Heights, Michael calls Franklin. Dave's side has already contacted Trevor.
- At the warehouse, Michael introduces Franklin and Trevor to each other and splits the roles.
- Trevor: fly a Frogger to IAA headquarters
- Michael: climb down the outside of the building and secure Kerimov
- Franklin: sniper support from the roof of the Arcadius Business Center across the street
- Rescue at IAA headquarters
- When Trevor holds the helicopter over the building, Michael goes down the line, breaks a window, and goes in. He grabs Kerimov and puts a gun to his head, the agents aim at Michael, and Franklin snipes them.
- Once the first agents are down, Trevor pulls Michael and Kerimov up. Meanwhile Franklin takes out the remaining agents.
- Then IAA helicopters show up. Franklin shoots one pilot, and Michael shoots the rest down from the helicopter.
- When every helicopter is down, switch to Trevor, fly back to El Burro Heights, and land. Hand Kerimov over to the FIB, and when Michael and Trevor split up, you finish.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 7 minutes 30 seconds
- When you shoot down the enemy helicopter chasing Franklin, switch to Trevor right away and fly to the landing zone. Michael handles the remaining helicopters on his own. Land as Trevor yourself. If you do not, the helicopter only hovers over the landing zone.
- Accuracy of at least 60%
- As soon as you can control Michael, switch to him, use the special ability, and aim for the torso to land more hits.
- After the rescue, circle near Franklin as Trevor and let Michael and Franklin shoot the helicopters down, and you do not have to worry about misses.
- 10 headshots
- Get them with Michael's special ability or Franklin's sniping.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted
- Dave, Steve, or Andreas dies, or you leave Dave behind
- Dave's car is destroyed, abandoned, or stuck
- You cause a scene in the food court or at the meeting spot, or you attack the FIB
- Michael is spotted by an IAA agent
- The helicopter is destroyed or abandoned, or Kerimov dies
3.22. Hood Safari
It opens after you finish both The Long Stretch and Three's Company, and you can start as Franklin or Trevor. Trevor butts into a drug deal Lamar set up, and you end up chased by the Ballas and the police.
- Grove Street deal
- In front of Denise's house in Strawberry, Lamar and Denise are laying into Franklin when Trevor shows up. The three of them take Lamar's van to Grove Street with Chop.
- In front of the buyer's house, Trevor splits the product in half and shows it is fake. The moment the dealer slams the door, the Ballas around you start shooting.
- Escape Grove Street
- Fight your way out with Lamar and Trevor. If your health gets low, switch between Franklin and Trevor. Chop runs home on his own.
- When the police roll in, follow Lamar through the narrow alleys to the Los Santos River. At the river, steal the three Seasharks a rapper and a film crew were filming, and head out to sea.
- On the way, cars shoot at you and a helicopter fires. The cars crash and stop on their own at the river, so you do not have to shoot back.
- Split up and lose the police
- Once you are out at sea, the three of you split up. Switch to the protagonist you want before you split. After that you cannot switch.
- If you flee alone and lose the wanted level, you finish right away. If you flee with another character, you have to drop that character off after you lose the wanted level.
- With Lamar: Lamar's house in Strawberry
- As Trevor with Franklin: Franklin's house
- As Franklin with Trevor: the Vanilla Unicorn, where Trevor is staying
- Gold medal
- Finish within 7 minutes
- Skip every cutscene, and flee alone upstream on the Los Santos River.
- Accuracy of at least 70%
- Aim for headshots, or use a shotgun.
- 12 headshots
- Reasons for failure
- You fail in these cases.
- Franklin or Trevor dies or is busted
- Lamar or Chop dies
- The deal goes wrong
- The van is destroyed or undrivable
- A Seashark is destroyed
- You ditch or lose the group, or someone falls behind
3.23. By the Book
It opens after you finish Three's Company. It starts as soon as Steve Haines calls, and you can also call Haines first as Michael. While Trevor interrogates Kerimov in the warehouse, Michael looks for the target, Tahir Javan, with Dave and snipes him.
- The warehouse in Banning
- At the warehouse you meet Haines, Dave, and Devin Weston. Kerimov once installed audio and video equipment in Javan's house, so he is the only source the FIB has.
- Michael sets out with Dave to find the target, and Trevor stays at the warehouse with Haines.
- Interrogation and the search
- The house in Rockford Hills that Michael checks first is a dead end. After that, you pick a tool and interrogate as Trevor, then Michael takes the clue you got and moves to the next place, and that loop repeats.
- There are four interrogation tools.
- Waterboarding
- Hitting with a wrench: depending on where Trevor stands, he hits the knee, the torso, or the arm, and the effect and the damage are the same.
- Electric shock with a car battery
- Pulling a tooth with pliers
- If you push too hard, Kerimov's heart stops and you have to give him an adrenaline shot. You get three shots, and if his heart stops again after that, Kerimov dies and you fail.
- The first interrogation reveals the house in Chumash. When you arrive, a party is in full swing and there are five candidates, so you have to interrogate further and narrow the conditions.
- Average height and build
- A beard
- Chain-smokes, and the cigarettes are Redwood
- Left-handed
- If you recognize Javan and shoot him when you only know the first condition, you can finish the mission early.
- To the airport
- When you kill Javan, Haines tells you to deal with Kerimov and leaves. Trevor lets Kerimov go, puts him in the truck, and drives him to the airport.
- Drop Kerimov at the airport, and when Trevor leaves, you finish.
- Gold medal
- Use each of the four tools once, and never stop Kerimov's heart
- Use them in this order: wrench, tooth pulling, electric shock, waterboarding.
- If the heart rate goes over 200, the heart stops. When you give the electric shock, keep watching the heart-rate number.
- Waterboarding does the least damage, so do it last, in short bursts.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, or Dave dies or you leave him behind
- Dave's car is destroyed or stuck, or Trevor's truck is destroyed or stuck
- The target gets scared before you identify him, or Michael is spotted at the party
- You kill a party guest, or the party is disturbed and the target runs
- Kerimov dies or you leave him behind
3.24. The Merryweather Heist
Trevor plans this heist, and he, Michael, and Franklin pull it together. In the planning mission Scouting the Port you pick Freighter or Offshore, and both approaches require the Minisub setup. If you pick Offshore, a Cargobob setup is added.
3.24.1. Overview
- Planning: Scouting the Port
- It opens after you finish Fame or Shame. You start as Trevor at Floyd's apartment on Vespucci Beach, and Trevor, Wade, and Floyd enter the Port of Los Santos dressed as dock workers.
- When you reach Pier 400, Wade is called away to clean sewage, and Trevor takes over the dock work so he is not spotted.
- Move the containers marked for the Dock Handler into the loading area
- Climb into the crane cab and load two containers onto the truck
- From the end of the crane walkway, photograph the bow, the guard on the gangway, and the stern, one photo each, and send them to Ron
- Then drive the truck to the Los Santos Naval Port, which Merryweather is guarding. While the guards surround Floyd, Trevor takes the briefcase with the shipping manifest from the office.
- Leave the restricted area, go back to the apartment, and pick the heist approach to finish. If you pick Freighter, Trevor tells Franklin to practice at the shooting range, and if you pick Offshore, he tells Michael to try flight school. Neither is required.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 20 minutes
- Do not damage the containers: drive the Dock Handler slowly and carefully.
- Take all 3 photos as instructed
- Do not cause a disturbance on the dock: if you cause one you fail anyway, so finishing the mission clears this too.
- You fail in these cases.
- Trevor dies or is busted, or Wade or Floyd dies or you leave them behind
- Trevor's cover is blown, or you leave Pier 400
- A container is badly damaged, the Dock Handler is destroyed or stuck, a container on the handler is damaged, or you abandon the cargo
- The truck is destroyed or stuck
- Setup: Minisub
- It opens after Scouting the Port, and you have to do it no matter which approach you picked. The target is the yellow submersible hanging from a ship docked at the port.
- Sneak onto the ship and release the cable from the control panel, or shoot the cable with a sniper rifle to drop the submersible into the water. There is one guard on the ship.
- Drive the submersible to another part of the port and Floyd lifts it with a crane onto a trailer. Move it together to the port warehouse, then get out of the truck to finish.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 8 minutes 30 seconds: go around the south of Elysian Island to Pier 400, and stay near the surface while avoiding underwater obstacles.
- Steal the submersible without boarding the ship: snipe the cable from land, then jump in the water and get in the submersible.
- You fail if any of these happen: Trevor dies or is busted, Floyd dies or you leave him behind, the submersible, truck, or Floyd's pickup is wrecked, or you leave the mission area.
- When the heist opens
- You have to finish By the Book and Minisub. If you picked Offshore, you also have to finish Cargobob.
- You can do the setup missions before By the Book.
- Either way, Lester shows up at the end and tells you to put the stolen device back, so this heist pays nothing.
3.24.2. Freighter
While Franklin covers from a distance, Michael plants bombs on the freighter, and Trevor recovers the device from the sunken ship in the submersible. The only setup mission is Minisub.
- Sniper spot and infiltration
- After the plan at Floyd's apartment, Trevor picks up Franklin and drives to the Miriam Turner Overpass. Franklin climbs to the lookout.
- Around sunset, Michael, who was waiting in a boat, jumps into the water and boards the freighter. Meanwhile, as Franklin, use the sniper rifle and take out the Merryweather guards.
- Planting the bombs
- Michael sticks sticky bombs on the bow pillar, the first mast, and the second mast, in that order, then heads for the stern entrance. He plants four bombs in all.
- If Michael is spotted along the way, switch to Franklin and take out the guards chasing him and the Merryweather helicopter.
- Once Michael is off the ship, Franklin detonates the bombs and sinks the freighter.
- Recovering the device
- As Michael in scuba gear, find the device among the wreckage. Then Trevor picks it up in the submersible and carries it to the safe zone to finish.
- Gold medal
- 12 headshots, accuracy of at least 80%
- Aim for every enemy's head and both goals fill together. This approach has a flaw where even 100% accuracy is not counted, so you cannot earn the gold medal. The Offshore approach does not have this flaw.
- Kill 12 enemies with stealth attacks
- Stay in stealth while you plant the bombs, and shoot the guards with a suppressed Combat Pistol. Franklin stays in stealth the whole time, so taking them all out as Franklin still counts.
- Reach the inside of the ship without being spotted
- Do not throw the bombs; stick them directly on the pillars. After the first bomb, climbing the ladder keeps the guards from hearing you. You can also drop the guards before Michael with the thermal scope on Franklin's sniper rifle.
- Find the container within 60 seconds
- Drive the submersible straight toward the wreckage. A red light blinks on the device.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, or the police notice during the heist
- Franklin's sniper rifle runs out of ammo, or Franklin falls behind
- Merryweather notices while Michael is not in position, Michael runs out of sticky bombs, or a bomb goes off too early
- Michael or Franklin leaves the area, or Michael or Trevor abandons the heist
- The submersible runs aground
3.24.3. Offshore
You hang the submersible from the Cargobob, fly to Merryweather's offshore test site, and recover the device. The setup missions are Minisub and Cargobob.
- Setup: Cargobob
- It opens only if you picked Offshore in Scouting the Port. Enter Fort Zancudo and steal a Cargobob.
- Once you leave the base, a military Buzzard helicopter chases you. Lose it, then drop the Cargobob in the hangar at Sandy Shores Airfield to finish.
- Gold medal: finish within 5 minutes 30 seconds
- As soon as you are in the Cargobob, fly straight toward Sandy Shores Airfield.
- You fail if the Cargobob is destroyed or you leave it behind.
- Moving the submersible
- After the plan, Michael drives Trevor's truck with both of them to Sandy Shores Airfield.
- Once Trevor gets in the submersible that Wade and Floyd brought, Michael lifts it with the Cargobob hook and flies to the test site off Paleto Cove.
- Lower the submersible close to the test site.
- Finding the device
- Trevor finds the device with the Trackify app on his phone, grabs it, and surfaces. Switch back to Michael and lift the submersible.
- Merryweather chase
- On the way back to the airfield, Merryweather helicopters and boats attack. Franklin has to move to the rear of the Cargobob and take them all out with the Combat MG.
- Fly low over the airfield and lower the submersible to finish.
- Gold medal
- Find the device within 2 minutes
- The seabed is full of rocks, so stay as high as you can until you are almost on top of the device.
- Finish within 14 minutes 30 seconds
- Kill every Merryweather pursuer
- Do not flee; stand and fight.
- Get clear of the Merryweather chase within 4 minutes
- The faster you take the enemies out, the more the time goal fills with it.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, someone falls behind, or Wade or Floyd dies
- The submersible is destroyed, or the Cargobob is destroyed or abandoned
- You do not deal with Merryweather in time
3.25. Blitz Play
On FIB orders, the three protagonists rob an IAA transport carrying drug-sale money. There is only one approach, and you have to finish all five setup missions before the job opens.
3.25.1. Overview
- Start: Blitz Play intro
- It opens after you finish By the Book and Minisub. If you picked Offshore on The Merryweather Heist, you also have to finish Cargobob.
- The three of them meet Steve Haines, Dave Norton, and Andreas Sanchez and are told to rob the IAA transport. After the agents leave, Michael suggests a classic ambush.
- Leave the spot to finish, and Michael tells the group what to prepare on a group call. Dave is added to Franklin's and Trevor's contacts at this point.
- You fail if Michael dies or is threatened.
- The five setup missions
- You can do them as any of the three protagonists, and you can do other missions in between.
- Masks
- Buy three masks at the mask shop on Vespucci Beach. They can all be the same mask.
- The gold medal goals are to buy them all within 20 seconds, and to buy a white hockey mask for all three. If you do this last, the follow-up call counts toward the 20 seconds, so skip it.
- You fail if you leave the shop or the police are called. The same happens if you cannot afford them or the masks can no longer be bought.
- Boiler suits
- Buy three boiler suits at the marked Ammu-Nation, then leave the shop.
- The gold medal goals are to buy them all within 30 seconds, and to buy a different color for each of the three.
- The failure conditions match the masks, except the place you must not leave is Ammu-Nation.
- Trash truck
- Steal a trash truck driving around Mirror Park, La Mesa, and East Vinewood. Lose the two-star wanted level that sticks, then drop it at the FIB warehouse in El Burro Heights.
- The gold medal goals are to finish within 5 minutes, deliver it undamaged, and reach top speed in the trash truck. Top speed comes easily if you use Franklin's special ability.
- You fail if the trash truck is destroyed or stuck, or you leave the trash truck behind.
- Tow truck
- Steal the tow truck in front of the garage in La Puerta and leave it at the FIB warehouse. A mechanic working nearby swings a fist or chases you in a car.
- Two kinds of tow truck share the name, and this mission needs the larger one.
- The gold medal goals are to finish within 3 minutes, deliver it undamaged, and reach top speed in the tow truck. The damage check is stricter than in other missions, and even a small scratch is not allowed.
- You fail if the tow truck is destroyed or stuck, or you leave the tow truck behind.
- Getaway vehicle
- Pick a car other than a protagonist's default vehicle and work vehicles such as a bus or fire truck, park it somewhere not too close to the job site or the FIB warehouse, then report the location by phone.
- The job happens in the south of the map, so parking far away means a long drive later. There are no failure conditions and no gold medal.
- When the job opens
- On top of the five setup missions, you have to finish The Hotel Assassination, Did Somebody Say Yoga?, Hood Safari, and The Merryweather Heist.
3.25.2. The job
The plan is for Trevor to keep watch, Michael to block the road with the trash truck, and Franklin to ram the transport with the tow truck. After that the three of them take turns holding off the police that pour in.
- The ambush
- Trevor finds the transport with binoculars from up high. Once he finds it, as Michael, drive the trash truck and block the road in Cypress Flats.
- Franklin rams the transport with the tow truck from an alley and tips it onto its side. Stick a sticky bomb on the rear door and blow it, and the guards come out with their hands up; you can let them go or take them out.
- Holding off the police
- Once you grab the bearer bonds, the police come in five waves. Switch freely among the three while you fight, and Trevor is carrying an RPG.
- Wave 1: four police cars and officers on the main road
- Wave 2: NOOSE agents through the back alley, and more agents by police helicopter
- Wave 3: more units in the back alley and on the main road
- Wave 4: three snipers on the roof of the southeast building, and Trevor takes them out
- Wave 5: a second police helicopter, and Trevor shoots it down
- Escape and handoff
- When the police are cleared, Franklin drives the trash truck to where the getaway car is. Get out, blow up the trash truck, put some distance between you, then get in the getaway car.
- Then, as Michael, go to Devin Weston's house and hand over the bonds to finish.
- Finishing it lets you hire Chef as a gunman, and Ammu-Nation stocks the Assault Shotgun, Bullpup Shotgun, Combat MG, and RPG.
- Gold medal
- Shoot down the helicopter as Trevor
- Unlike the description, shooting it down as any character with any weapon counts.
- 12 headshots
- As Michael with the Combat MG, turn the special ability on and aim precisely for the head.
- Accuracy of at least 60%
- Shooting the torso with a low-damage weapon, or using a shotgun that spreads pellets, raises the number of hits.
- Switch characters 10 times
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, you leave a partner behind, or you abandon the heist
- Trevor's truck is destroyed, the trash truck is destroyed or abandoned, the tow truck is destroyed, or the trash truck or tow truck gets stuck
- Your cover is blown, or you have no sticky bomb for the transport door
- NOOSE breaks through a flank, or you are spotted because a sniper or helicopter is not dealt with
- You blow up the trash truck in front of people, or the meeting with Devin goes wrong
3.26. I Fought the Law...
This is Devin Weston's first vehicle request, and it opens after you finish Blitz Play. Franklin challenges two rich kids to a freeway race, and Michael and Trevor, dressed as traffic police, pull them over and take the Entity XF and the Cheetah.
- Challenging them to a race
- Meet Devin and the lawyer Molly Schultz at the construction site in Alta. Franklin takes the F620 to the Tataviam truck stop on the Senora Freeway and challenges the two of them to a race.
- The race runs north along the freeway, and you meet a pair of trucks driving side by side, then a pair of buses. The trucks are just after the start, and the buses are near the Los Santos Freeway split.
- Police bike chase
- Once the race passes Grapeseed, you switch to Michael. Ride a police bike with Trevor, go through Paleto Bay, and chase them.
- Along the way one of the cars you are taking peels off and enters the Braddock Tunnel, and Trevor chases it.
- Pull the two of them over on the Cassidy Creek bridge and take the cars.
- To Hayes Autos
- Call Molly and she tells you to bring the cars to Hayes Autos. The three of them race there again, and arriving finishes the mission.
- Devin says he will pay only after all five cars are collected. The next target is Chad Mulligan's Z-Type, and Michael sits this one out.
- Finishing it unlocks the last modification at Los Santos Customs and the nightstick at Ammu-Nation, and the Legendary Motorsport site sells the Cheetah and the Entity XF.
- Gold medal
- Pass between the two trucks
- Pass between the two buses
- Go through the tunnel following Trevor
- Trevor chases the car that peels off into the tunnel, so as Michael stay right behind him.
- Finish within 12 minutes
- Skip the cutscenes and drive between checkpoints without stopping.
- Use Franklin's special ability during the race
- Turning it on while you pass between the trucks or the buses makes both goals easier to chase together.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, or Devin dies
- Devin's car is wrecked or destroyed, or a car you are taking is wrecked, destroyed, abandoned, or stuck
- A bike is destroyed or abandoned, Trevor's bike is wrecked, or Trevor is injured
- A racer gets scared, is hurt, or dies, or a racer leaves the gas station or runs
3.27. Mr Richards
It opens after you finish Blitz Play. Michael meets the film producer Solomon Richards and brings back the lead actor and the director, who are refusing to shoot, to the studio.
- Backlot City
- Meet Solomon at Richards Majestic in Backlot City. Milton McIlroy, the lead of the film Meltdown, is holding out behind his new manager Rocco Pelosi, and director Anton Beaudelaire has walked away with a nervous breakdown.
- Sneak up to the roof
- On the way to the building in East Los Santos, Solomon calls and asks you to go in quietly.
- Avoid the staff or drop them with stealth attacks, and climb to the rooftop helipad.
- Fistfight with Rocco
- On the roof you have to fight Rocco bare-handed and win.
- Helicopter flight
- Once you drop Rocco, you board the Frogger with Milton and Anton. Fly fast, close to buildings, and rough under bridges to change their minds.
- Return to the studio and go to Solomon's office to finish. Michael becomes a co-producer of the film.
- Finishing it adds Solomon to your contacts, and after that you can come and go in Backlot City freely.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 10 minutes
- Kill 3 people with stealth attacks
- Taking them out with a suppressed gun still counts.
- Beat Rocco without taking a single hit
- Turn Michael's special ability on and fight.
- Land the Frogger without damage
- Reasons for failure
- Michael dies or is busted, or Rocco notices before you reach the roof
- Rocco dies or escapes, or Milton, Anton, or Solomon dies
- The Frogger is destroyed, or you leave Milton and Anton behind or scare them
3.28. Eye in the Sky
It opens after you finish I Fought the Law..., and you can start as Franklin or Trevor. Trevor finds Chad Mulligan with the police helicopter's camera, and Franklin takes the Z-Type on the ground.
- Meeting up
- If you start as Trevor, tell the front desk at Mission Row Police Station that Devin sent you, then board the Police Maverick waiting on the roof.
- If you start as Franklin, wait at the FIB lot and meet the helicopter Trevor is in.
- A police pilot flies the helicopter, and Trevor only works the camera that reads the chip in a driver's license. First find Franklin, who is marked on the screen, and scan him.
- Scanning suspects
- In the first area in Hawick you scan four people, but Mulligan is not there. Mulligan is among the six who appear in the second area.
- You can overhear people's conversations while you scan, so do not let them pass.
- Follow Mulligan until you find the garage, and he drives off in the Z-Type. Do not lose the car on the camera, and tell Franklin where it is.
- Searching the parking structure
- When Mulligan hides in the parking structure, the camera switches to thermal. Zoom in on Franklin's heat signature first, then check the other signatures one by one.
- Once you find Mulligan, you switch to Franklin. If you leave Mulligan alive, a theft report gives you a two-star wanted level, and if you kill him or knock him out, no report goes in.
- Handoff at the airport
- Bring the Z-Type to the hangar at Los Santos International Airport, where Devin and Molly are waiting. Devin welcomes it as one of only ten in the world, but says he will pay after you bring the rest of the cars.
- Take one of the Tailgaters Molly points out and leave through the airport exit to finish.
- Finishing it lists the Z-Type for sale at Legendary Motorsport.
- Gold medal
- Deliver the Z-Type undamaged
- If you leave Mulligan alive, the police come too, so drive carefully. Franklin's special ability helps.
- Overhear 3 conversations
- Find Mulligan's hiding place on the first try
- On the thermal view, the person farthest to the left is Mulligan.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, the police are called, Franklin leaves the area, or you leave Trevor behind
- Trevor draws a weapon at the police station, or he leaves the station
- The helicopter is destroyed or damaged, the helicopter leaves the city, Trevor gets out of the helicopter, or the pilot dies
- You lose the Z-Type, or the Z-Type is wrecked, destroyed, abandoned, or stuck
- Devin dies or gets scared and leaves, you attack Devin's group, Devin's plane is wrecked, or you lead the police to Devin
3.29. Caida Libre
It opens after you finish both Eye in the Sky and Mr Richards. On Martin Madrazo's request, Michael brings down the plane carrying his cousin Javier, and Trevor collects the papers at the crash site.
- Madrazo's house
- At the house in La Fuente Blanca, Madrazo asks you to get rid of his cousin Javier, who is about to testify against him, and to recover important papers.
- Sniping from the observatory
- As Michael, go to the Galileo Observatory and get in the black Burrito van that Madrazo fitted with a heavy rifle in the back.
- The plane appears at the upper left of the aiming view and crosses toward the airport. Shoot the red square that corrects for distance. Hit an engine three times and the plane goes down.
- Bike chase
- Switch to Trevor, take the Sanchez, and chase the falling plane through Great Chaparral, Harmony, and Sandy Shores. Along the way there is at least one jump you have to make.
- Deal with Javier in front of the crashed plane, then go inside and grab the papers.
- Destroying the van and meeting up
- Switch back to Michael, move the van far from the observatory, and destroy it.
- On the way to Madrazo's house you get Trevor's call and head for the Stoner Cement Works. Trevor arrives driving Madrazo's car, and Madrazo's wife Patricia is tied up in the trunk. The mission finishes on this scene.
- After that the two of them lie low in Sandy Shores, and you cannot switch to Michael or Trevor until you finish Minor Turbulence.
- Until you finish Monkey Business, Madrazo's men attack if Michael or Trevor enters Los Santos on the ground. You are not attacked while you are in an aircraft.
- Finishing it adds Madrazo to Trevor's contacts.
- Gold medal
- Reach top speed on the Sanchez
- Riding with the front wheel up builds speed.
- Do not fall off the Sanchez during the chase
- Getting off on purpose also misses the goal.
- Shoot the plane down in 3 shots
- You can use Michael's special ability only on the first shot.
- Finish within 9 minutes 45 seconds
- Skip every cutscene. The Fusilade on the house driveway is faster than Michael's Premier.
- A helicopter is faster if you have one. The end of Mr Richards makes a helicopter easy to keep, so fly that one to the house and the observatory.
- After you grab the papers, drive the van to the cement works and blow it up there. The next destination is that same place.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, or Trevor's truck is destroyed
- The van is destroyed before you bring the plane down, the plane reaches the airport, or you lose the falling plane
- You blow up the van near the observatory, or you leave the van behind
3.30. Deep Inside
This is Devin's third vehicle request, and you can do it right after you finish Caida Libre. Franklin steals the JB 700, a car used in a film, from the Backlot City set.
- Sneaking into the studio
- When you arrive at the studio, any wanted level you had disappears at once. Molly says only actors and stuntmen may enter the set, and tells you to pose as an actor or find another way.
- Climb over a locked door or sneak in from somewhere else, such as the west side, and find the actor Brandon complaining to his assistant about a fruit salad in front of a trailer.
- Drop Brandon with a stealth attack and take his white tuxedo to wear. If you kill him, Brandon does not come out during the escape, and you cannot earn every gold medal.
- Taking the car
- An actress is in the JB 700 on the set. Linger nearby too long and the director notices, and the moment you get in the car the guards start shooting.
- Once you leave the studio, the guards chase you in black Schafters. The actress in the passenger seat screams and sometimes grabs the wheel.
- Shake the three guard cars behind you with the spikes, and eject the actress with the red-button ejector seat.
- Hayes Autos
- Once you have dropped both the chase and the actress, Franklin calls Molly. Bring the car to Hayes Autos to finish.
- Devin is waiting in the garage, and the suspicious person Molly mentioned turns out to have been Lamar. Devin wants to pull Lamar into the next job.
- Finishing it lets you buy the JB 700 at Legendary Motorsport.
- Gold medal
- Deliver the JB 700 with as little damage as possible
- Damage from the guards' guns barely counts, and only damage from crashes you cause is counted. Handle the car with Franklin's special ability.
- Reach top speed in the JB 700
- There is no time limit, so you can build speed on the freeway before you hand the car over.
- Knock the actor out with a stealth attack
- Use the ejector seat within 10 seconds
- Press the button as soon as the prompt appears.
- Hit the actor with the JB 700 while escaping
- The knocked-out Brandon is staggering on the way out.
- Reasons for failure
- Franklin dies or is busted, or you attack Devin
- The car is destroyed, abandoned, or stuck
- You arrive with the actress still in the car, or you lead the police or the guards there and the garage location is exposed
3.31. Minor Turbulence
It opens after you finish Caida Libre, and it starts when you visit Michael's empty house as Franklin. Trevor chases Merryweather's cargo plane in a crop duster and climbs aboard. Right after Caida Libre it may not show up at once, so drive around Los Santos for a bit.
- Leaving McKenzie Field
- After Franklin hears the situation by phone, you switch to Trevor. Ron brings up the weapons Merryweather is bringing in bulk, and Trevor and Ron go to McKenzie Field in Grapeseed.
- Low chase
- In the crop duster, chase the cargo plane circling near Fort Zancudo. Fly low along the coast so the base radar does not pick you up.
- Once you leave the base airspace at Braddock Pass, close in on the plane. After the pilot warns you several times to change course, he opens the cargo door, and rockets and bullets come from inside.
- Stick close behind the plane and fly the crop duster into the cargo hold.
- Fight in the cargo hold
- Dodge the sliding Mesas and the cargo, take out the Merryweather mercenaries, and drop the pilot in the cockpit too.
- Take the controls and head for McKenzie Field, and two United States Air Force jets appear and order you to Fort Zancudo. When Trevor refuses, a missile wrecks one engine.
- Escape
- Grab a parachute and drop while sitting in a Mesa, or jump from the cargo hold. If you are too low, climb to a safe height first.
- Landing safely with the parachute finishes the mission. The plane falls into the Alamo Sea.
- Finishing it adds a parachute to the Ammu-Nation stock list.
- Gold medal
- Accuracy of at least 80%
- A shotgun makes it easier to land hits.
- If you die, you return to a checkpoint and the goal is voided. Approach the plane from below, turn the special ability on after you climb aboard, and fill your body armor.
- Getting hit by a sliding Mesa or a crate can kill you outright. Cross the cover to the left, not the right where the vehicles pour out.
- Leave the plane while sitting in a Mesa
- After you jump, get out of the Mesa and open the parachute. If you hit the ground still inside, you are caught in the explosion. The Mesa closest to the cockpit does not fall.
- Reasons for failure
- Trevor dies or is busted, or Ron, Michael, or Patricia dies
- The crop duster is destroyed too early, you leave the crop duster behind, or you fail to enter the cargo hold
- You lose the plane, or Trevor falls or the plane is destroyed before it is shot down
- The plane gets too close to Los Santos, or it gets too far from McKenzie Field
3.32. The Paleto Score - Planning
This is The Paleto Score Setup, the planning mission for The Paleto Score. It opens after you finish Minor Turbulence, and it starts with Michael and Trevor meeting Steve Haines and Dave Norton at the meth lab in Sandy Shores. When the agents tell them to get the gear for the next job themselves, the two of them go with Lester to look over the bank in Paleto Bay.
- Scoping the bank
- As Michael, pick up Trevor, go to Paleto Bay, and pick up Lester, who arrived by bus. Look around in front of Blaine County Savings, then go back to the empty lot next door and check the alarm unit out back.
- Lester decides the cost of disabling the alarm is higher than the take, and suggests timing how fast the police show up. As Michael, you only have to shoot the alarm. If you have no gun, stop at Ammu-Nation first and buy one.
- Checking the police response
- Watch from the gas station across the street and four police cars arrive quickly, with extra units waiting as well. On the police radio, they say they will set up roadblocks on the highway.
- At this point Trevor gets out of the car and steals a Ruffian that was parked there.
- Race back to the lab
- You choose whether Michael or Trevor makes the run. Trevor's Ruffian is faster than Michael's Premier. If you pick Michael, the conversation with Lester explains why this bank has to be robbed in a head-on fight with the police.
- Either direction on the Great Ocean Highway has a roadblock, and driving straight through gets you spotted by the police and fails the mission. The guided route through Paleto Forest and up toward Raton Canyon is safe.
- Whoever arrives first, the mission continues.
- Choosing the gunman
- Once you gather at the lab, Lester sets up the planning board, and the mission ends when you pick one gunman for The Paleto Score.
- A rookie gunman such as Daryl or Norm is guaranteed to die during the finale. Even so, the cut plus the death fee comes to 9% for Daryl and 10.5% for Norm, which is less than Packie, Chef, or Gustavo.
- Daryl is the cheapest, but it is better to save Daryl for The Bureau Raid and The Big Score and use Norm here.
- Finishing it adds Lester to Trevor's contacts, and it unlocks Predator and the setup mission Military Equipment.
- Gold medal
- Reach the bank within 3 minutes 30 seconds
- Win the race back to the lab
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, Lester dies, you leave Lester behind, or you leave the mission area
- The car is destroyed or stuck, or you enter Los Santos while banished from the city
- The bank or the police spot you, a guard notices you, or you are not watching the bank when the police arrive
3.33. Predator
It opens after you finish The Paleto Score - Planning. The three protagonists chase the three remaining O'Neil brothers into the forest and take them out. You can start as anyone, but starting as Franklin skips the first cutscene and goes straight into the chase.
- Highway chase
- Franklin chases the O'Neil brothers' Dubsta in the Baller with Chop aboard. It starts on the Great Ocean Highway near North Chumash and enters Raton Canyon.
- An elk jumps into the road, and the brothers' car rolls down the slope and catches fire. When you go down, the three of them have already fled into the forest.
- Helicopter sniping
- You switch to Trevor, and he and Michael take a Frogger from Sandy Shores Airfield and fly to the forest.
- On arrival, Michael takes a sniper rifle fitted with a thermal scope. Deer moving through the forest show a heat signature similar to a person, so check the shape before you shoot.
- Once you drop Walton and Wynn, the remaining Elwood fires a rocket at the helicopter from behind a rock. You cannot hit Elwood from this position.
- Tracking with Chop
- After you switch to Franklin, change to Chop's view and Chop follows the scent to Elwood. Catch up as Franklin and take him out.
- When Franklin gets close, Elwood leaves cover and runs, so you can also switch to Michael and snipe him from the helicopter.
- Heading back
- As Trevor, land the helicopter, pick up Franklin and Chop, and landing at Sandy Shores Airfield finishes the mission.
- If you have also finished Military Equipment, The Paleto Score unlocks. Franklin's Strangers and Freaks mission Exercising Demons unlocks at this point too.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 9 minutes
- Starting as Franklin saves time.
- Accuracy of at least 70%
- Shooting the water lowers your accuracy.
- 3 headshots
- There are only three targets, so you have to hit all three in the head. Keep Michael's special ability on.
- Do not kill a single animal
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, Chop dies, or you leave Chop or the helicopter behind
- The Baller is destroyed or stuck, Trevor's truck is destroyed, or the helicopter is destroyed
- The O'Neil brothers escape, or you draw police attention to the forest
3.34. The Paleto Score
This is the heist where you rob Blaine County Savings. There is only one approach, and you already picked the gunman during planning.
3.34.1. Overview
- Setup: Military Equipment
- It opens after you finish The Paleto Score - Planning, and you play it as either Michael or Trevor. You take the gear from an army convoy heading to Fort Zancudo through the Grand Senora Desert.
- The convoy moves as one Barracks and two Crusaders. The route is chosen at random between the road that starts south of Harmony and the road that follows the Zancudo River, and the two roads meet at the base entrance.
- Take out the escort and steal the Barracks carrying two equipment crates. It is tougher than a normal Barracks, but it can still be wrecked, so use explosives carefully.
- You do not get a wanted level unless you enter Fort Zancudo. Parking the Barracks behind Trevor's office at the meth lab finishes the mission.
- Gold medal
- 5 headshots: if you blow up both Crusaders, you will not have enough enemies left to shoot.
- Stop the convoy with a sticky-bomb trap: block the road ahead of the convoy with a car, lay sticky bombs on the road in front of that, and detonate them when the lead Crusader approaches.
- You fail if the convoy reaches the base, or if the Barracks is destroyed or stuck. Leaving the gear behind fails it as well.
- What unlocks the finale
- You have to finish both the setup mission Military Equipment and the story mission Predator, in either order.
- Payout
- The money you take from the bank is always $8,016,020, but some of it is lost during the escape no matter how well you play. The FIB takes 78% of that bank take, so the maximum net is $1,763,524.
- Lester's cut is 12%. If you used Daryl, each of the three protagonists receives about $464,395, and if you used Norm, about $455,577.
3.34.2. The job
The three protagonists and the gunman drive a Burrito to Paleto Bay. The original plan was for Franklin to take the money by boat and slip out to sea, so they drop Franklin off near the dock and the rest go into the bank.
- Inside the bank
- Trevor shoots out a security camera and the alarm goes off. While Michael and Trevor hold the customers, the gunman heats the vault door with a torch, and Michael kicks the weakened door open.
- Meanwhile two sheriffs arrive, and after Trevor fires a warning shot, backup surrounds the bank.
- Fighting through town
- The three of them come out wearing the heavy body armor taken from the convoy, and Trevor carries a minigun. Take out the police and the police helicopter. The helicopter crashes into a nearby apartment.
- Past the collapsed building and the backyards, NOOSE officers show up. Push along the main road toward the construction site, and shoot down fences that block you.
- If you picked a rookie gunman, around this point he is hit by a police car and crushed against a wall. Pick up the weapon beside the body and the money bag holding about $2,500,000. A skilled gunman means that police car never appears.
- The army and the bulldozer
- The army brings in several Rhino tanks and troops, and a Cargobob passes overhead slinging one Rhino. Hold on as Michael or Trevor.
- With the harbor blocked, you cannot escape by boat, so Franklin finds a bulldozer at a nearby construction site and drives it over. During this stretch you lose about $20,000 no matter who you fight as.
- Once Michael and Trevor climb onto the bulldozer blade, switch to Franklin and drive it to the Cluckin' Bell factory while avoiding the tanks.
- The factory and the train
- Fight through the soldiers inside the factory to the rail platform. If the gunman is still alive he holds some of the soldiers outside, but if he is dead the three of you have to deal with all of them.
- While you hold off the last troops, a train comes in and you climb aboard. Getting off at Sandy Shores, Andreas Sanchez takes the FIB's cut, and the mission is complete.
- Finishing it puts the MG and the minigun on sale at Ammu-Nation, and it unlocks Derailed. The Cluckin' Bell stock drops about 40%, then rises again after you finish ending C.
- Gold medal
- Fire at least 4,000 rounds
- Trevor's minigun is essential.
- Accuracy of at least 50%
- Turn on Michael's special ability and aim for the torso. A shotgun is easier to hit with than the minigun.
- Finish within 16 minutes
- Keep moving forward without stopping.
- Cause $1,000,000 of damage in Paleto Bay
- When you first leave the bank, shoot the pumps at the gas station on the left and the station explodes. After that, keep wrecking cars with Trevor's minigun and the damage total builds.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, you leave the crew behind, the heist is exposed, or you abandon the heist
- The Burrito is destroyed, a getaway vehicle is destroyed, or the bulldozer is destroyed or abandoned
- A crew member misses the train
3.35. Derailed
It opens after you finish The Paleto Score, and it starts at Trevor's trailer in Sandy Shores. Trevor learns that Merryweather is moving an expensive cargo by train, and he and Michael derail that train.
- Sprinting along the train
- As Trevor, ride the Sanchez to the tracks east of Sandy Shores. Use the rocky rise beside the rails as a ramp and jump onto a container car.
- Jump the gaps between cars and run to the locomotive, and Trevor knocks out the engineer and drives the train. He passes straight through Paleto Bay station, where it was supposed to stop.
- The bridge collision
- Switch to Michael and, in a wetsuit, drive the Dinghy upriver to the Raton Canyon rail bridge. If you do not get there in time, you fail.
- Trevor sets the train into a head-on crash with an oncoming locomotive, and jumps into the river just before the impact. The freight cars spill off the bridge.
- Blow the orange container's doors off with a sticky bomb. If you run out of bombs and cannot open the door, you fail.
- Cover and the downstream escape
- While Michael pulls the cargo out, as Trevor hold off Merryweather boats, a helicopter, and snipers. Hidden snipers are easier to find with the thermal scope.
- Once the cargo is secured, Trevor climbs onto the Dinghy and rides the rapids down to the river mouth. Keep dealing with the Merryweather troops chasing you using Trevor's sniper rifle.
- Come out to the sea, beach the Dinghy, and reaching the spot with the two getaway vehicles ready finishes the mission. The cargo in the bag is an old relic, and Michael means to hand it to Martin Madrazo as an apology.
- Right after you finish, Steve Haines calls Michael and Trevor and tells them to meet at Cape Catfish. The wrecked train blocks the tracks, so parachute jump 8 cannot be done until you finish Hang Ten.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 11 minutes 30 seconds
- Reach top speed on the Sanchez
- Riding with the front wheel up builds speed.
- Land on the train with the first jump
- Leave the ramp with your speed kept down.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, or Ron or Patricia dies
- The Sanchez is destroyed, abandoned, or stuck, or Michael's car is destroyed
- You miss the train, Trevor fails to get onto the train or falls off, the train is destroyed, or the train arrives safely at the station
- The Dinghy is destroyed, abandoned, or grounded, you leave the container or the escape route behind, or a getaway vehicle is destroyed or abandoned
3.36. Monkey Business
It opens after you finish Derailed, and it starts at Cape Catfish with the three protagonists meeting Steve Haines and Dave Norton. The job is to steal nerve gas from Humane Labs, with Haines and Norton infiltrating alongside Michael while Trevor and Franklin handle the transport.
- When it will not start
- Walking up to the start point along the road often only shows a message that the mission was interrupted, and it does not start. Call a taxi to skip the trip, or walk a few steps toward the rock on the right and wait for the start marker to come back.
- Underwater entry
- The three of them, in wetsuits, take a Dinghy along the coast to near the lab. Swim to the underwater vent and cut away the grate blocking the entrance with the cutter. If the cutter runs out of fuel, you fail.
- Past the vent and inside the lab, Michael leads the way, stunning researchers and staff with the stun gun.
- Securing the nerve gas and getting out
- Have a researcher open the lab door, and taking the nerve gas sets off the alarm and armed guards pour in. From here, use your normal weapons.
- Push through to the garage area and load the nerve gas into the refrigeration unit outside.
- The Cargobob transport
- Switch to Trevor and lower the Cargobob onto the refrigeration unit so the container hooks on. Haines shoots himself in the leg and stays behind, buying time in front of the agents who rush in.
- Fly to Sandy Shores Airfield, set the container down on the trailer, and land the helicopter. After Dave drives the truck away, word comes that Madrazo has accepted the relic.
- Taking Patricia home
- Then, as Trevor, drive Patricia to the Madrazo ranch at La Fuente Blanca and the mission is complete.
- Michael and Trevor can now enter Los Santos freely, and Michael's house in Rockford Hills is a safehouse again. Hang Ten unlocks.
- Gold medal
- Stun 8 enemies with the stun gun
- Researchers alone are not enough. After you take the nerve gas, stun at least one armed guard as well.
- The stun gun has a short range, so drop a guard with a few bullets first and then shoot them with it, and you take less damage.
- 15 headshots
- A shotgun makes it easier.
- Accuracy of at least 70%
- Use a low-damage weapon such as a pistol and land more hits.
- Finish within 13 minutes 30 seconds
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, Steve or Dave dies, you leave the two agents behind, or you leave the mission
- The boat is destroyed or stuck, the cutter runs out of fuel, or Michael's cover is blown
- The refrigeration unit is destroyed, the nerve gas is damaged, the helicopter is destroyed or abandoned, or the truck is destroyed
- Patricia dies or is abandoned, Trevor's truck is destroyed or stuck, or you scare Madrazo's men
3.37. Hang Ten
It opens after you finish Monkey Business, and it starts when you enter Floyd's apartment on Vespucci Beach as Trevor. It is a short mission in which Trevor takes Wade to the Vanilla Unicorn.
- Floyd's apartment
- After a cutscene where Trevor argues with Debra, back from a business trip, and with Floyd, Debra and Floyd die off screen. Trevor comes outside covered in blood, and he puts Wade, who happens to arrive, in the car.
- To the Vanilla Unicorn
- The only objective is to reach the strip club. If you drive at an easy pace, Wade talks about old times, including how he first met Trevor.
- On arrival, Trevor leaves Wade with the strippers and goes into the manager's office. You then switch to Michael, who calls Lester, and agreeing to meet there after hearing that Trevor has taken the club finishes the mission.
- What changes after you finish
- The Vanilla Unicorn becomes Trevor's safehouse, and Floyd's apartment can no longer be used.
- Trevor gets the club's drinks and lap dances for free. Michael and Franklin still have to pay, but they are not thrown out for touching a stripper.
- If the front bumper on Trevor's truck is stock, a raspberry jam doll is mounted on it.
- From then on, Wade is always sitting in a booth at the club.
- The planning mission for The Big Score and Trevor's Strangers and Freaks mission Extra Commission unlock, and parachute jump 8 opens again.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 4 minutes
- Even if you watch the cutscene and the dialogue all the way through, driving fast is enough to make the time.
- Reasons for failure
- Trevor dies or is busted, Wade dies, or you leave Wade behind
3.38. The Big Score - Planning
This is Surveying the Score, the first planning mission for The Big Score. It opens after you finish Hang Ten, and it starts in Trevor's office at the Vanilla Unicorn. Lester brings up a plan to rob the Union Depository, and the four of them split into pairs to look over the bank building and the cash trucks' route.
You do not pick the approach in this mission. You set it in the planning job that opens after you finish Meltdown.
- Scoping the bank
- As Michael, pick up Franklin, go to the Union Depository, and look over the front door and the garage entrance. Both look lightly guarded.
- Following the trucks
- Switch to Trevor, drive with Lester to Sandy Shores Airfield, and get in a Frogger. Fly to the sky over Murrieta Heights and find the two cash trucks.
- While you follow the trucks through the city, Trevor suggests a few places to hit, but Lester turns all of them down. The trucks pass through a tunnel and enter the bank garage, and Lester picks that tunnel as the ambush point.
- Checking the escape route
- Lester wants to see whether a nearby subway construction site can be used as an escape route, so hover the helicopter over the site entrance.
- When the look is done, Trevor returns to the airfield, and Michael drops Franklin at home. The mission ends when both of them have arrived.
- When you drop Franklin off, do not get out of the car until the on-screen marker comes back. If you get out first, progress stops and you have to reload the game.
- If you have also finished Deep Inside, Bury the Hatchet unlocks.
- Gold medal
- Follow the trucks without a distance warning
- Keep plenty of altitude, and following in a third-person view looking down makes it easier.
- Find the construction pit within 20 seconds
- It is in the parking lot just east of the bank.
- Fly under a bridge while following the trucks
- The easiest way is to pass under the bridge on the drainage side, parallel to the road.
- Fly into the tunnel while following the trucks
- Fly a little ahead of the trucks and high, with the nose already lined up on the tunnel, and once you are inside you only have to mind the throttle and the altitude.
- Finish within 11 minutes
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, you leave the job, Lester dies or is abandoned, or you leave Franklin behind
- Michael's car, Trevor's truck, or the helicopter is destroyed
- The alarm goes off at the bank or on a truck, you lose the trucks, or a truck arrives in the city
3.39. Bury the Hatchet
It opens after you finish both Deep Inside and The Big Score - Planning. It starts with Trevor visiting Michael's house, and you travel to North Yankton from the point of view of whichever of Michael or Trevor started the mission.
- The argument at the house
- Trevor wants to break Brad out of prison, but Michael changes the subject, and the two of them argue about what comes next. Trevor asks who is buried in Michael's grave in North Yankton, and when the answer does not satisfy him he drives off in Michael's car.
- Going as Trevor
- Go to Sandy Shores Airfield and fly to North Yankton in the plane Ron fueled. On the way, a text from Ron says Wei Cheng's men are looking for Trevor.
- Going as Michael
- Trevor took the car, so get another one, go to Los Santos International Airport, and enter through the terminal entrance on the second floor. A few men watch Michael as he checks in.
- After you land in North Yankton, drive to Ludendorff Cemetery. On the way, a flashback of what happened nine years ago plays out.
- The cemetery
- Trevor, who arrived first, digs up the grave, and Brad's body is in the coffin. The moment the two of them draw pistols on each other, the Triads burst in, and Trevor runs out through the cemetery gate.
- From here, as Michael, you have to fight through the Triads and get back to the car. The assault rifle, pump shotgun, and Micro SMG the Triads drop are more accurate and stronger than the pistol you start with.
- Even when you get in the car it will not move, because Trevor tampered with it, and Michael is captured by the Triads.
- Trevor's return
- As Trevor, fly to Sandy Shores Airfield and landing finishes the mission. Along the way Wei Cheng calls, telling him to pull out of Blaine County with Michael held hostage, but Trevor laughs and hangs up.
- Finishing it adds Wei Cheng to Trevor's contacts, and Pack Man unlocks. You cannot switch to Michael until you finish Fresh Meat.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 11 minutes
- At the end, fly straight to the airfield.
- 20 headshots
- Michael's special ability helps.
- Accuracy of at least 80%
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, or the car is destroyed, abandoned, or stuck
- Going as Trevor: the plane is destroyed or stuck
- Going as Michael: you leave the mission area, or you fail to reach the cemetery or the grave
3.40. Pack Man
This is Devin's last car request, and it opens after you finish Bury the Hatchet. It starts when you go to the front of Lamar's house in Strawberry, and you load the cars collected so far onto a truck and move them to the drop-off north of Paleto Bay.
- Loading the last car
- Lamar has the last car on the list, a Pegassi Monroe, waiting behind the Glass Heroes body shop. As Franklin, drive two blocks, meet Lamar, and take the Monroe to where Trevor has parked the Packer. Even if you start as Trevor, you soon switch to Franklin.
- Once you put the Monroe in the Packer's remaining slot, the three of them set off.
- The long drive
- As Trevor, drive the Packer to the Procopio Truck Stop. The guided route alone is about 13 km. On the way Franklin falls asleep, and Trevor and Lamar talk about Michael.
- The eastern freeway is faster than the guided route to the west, and fewer police stick with you. In that case the chase starts near Bolingbroke Penitentiary.
- The JB 700 chase
- If you take the western route, the police latch on near Hookies along with a two-star wanted level. While Franklin crosses to the JB 700 in the cargo bed, as Trevor keep the truck steady.
- Once the JB 700 is lowered, you switch to Franklin. Shake the pursuing police cars with the spikes and the gun mounted on the car.
- Meeting Molly
- Once you lose all the police, Franklin calls Molly. Follow the truck to the drop-off, meet Molly, and the mission is complete.
- Devin says he put the pay into his own fund and will not pay you yet. Finishing it lets you buy the Monroe at Legendary Motorsport, and Fresh Meat unlocks.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 12 minutes
- Start as Franklin and take the eastern freeway.
- Deliver the JB 700 with minimal damage
- Drive alongside the Packer rather than right behind it. You will not get pinned between a speeding police car and the truck, and it is easier to aim where the spikes go.
- Take out 3 police cars with the spikes
- The eastern freeway runs straight and the chase is longer, so you have plenty of time.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, Lamar or Molly dies, you leave Lamar or Molly behind, or you scare Molly or wreck Molly's car
- Any car you are hauling is destroyed, a car or the Packer gets stuck, the transport trailer is destroyed or abandoned, or the JB 700 is abandoned
- You draw police attention, or you lead the police to the drop-off
- Franklin falls off the Packer, or the trailer comes unhitched from the Packer
3.41. Fresh Meat
This is Franklin's mission, and it opens after you finish Pack Man, starting when you meet Trevor at the old house in Strawberry. You can also start as Trevor, but he only appears in the opening scene and leaves soon. Franklin has to go alone and save Michael from the Triads.
- Finding the slaughterhouse
- The Trackify app Lester set up points at the signal from Michael's phone. No route is drawn on the map, so follow the rough signal and find Raven Slaughterhouse.
- On the way the screen switches to Michael for a moment. A grinder starts in front of Michael, hung upside down on a meat hook, and a time limit appears. If you do not arrive in time, Michael is pulled into the grinder and you fail.
- Entering the slaughterhouse
- You can go around the back, climb onto the roof, and shoot down, or push straight in through the front door.
- When you reach where Michael is hanging, Franklin drops the gangster aiming at Michael and throws him a pistol. From here you can switch between the hanging Michael and Franklin while you fight.
- While you fight the next group, a gangster with a knife jumps Franklin. Shoot him off as Michael. When every enemy is down, Michael drops to the floor.
- Escape
- Leave in either the Coquette or the Feltzer parked outside. Two Triads chase you, so take them out or lose them.
- The mission is complete when you reach Michael's house. You can play as Michael again, and The Ballad of Rocco opens along with Cleaning out the Bureau, the first setup for The Bureau Raid.
- After this mission Michael and Trevor will not hang out together until you finish The Third Way.
- Gold medal
- Switch characters 3 times or fewer
- Stay on Franklin until you save Michael, fight the rest of the shootout as Michael, and switch back to Franklin when you drive away, and that comes to three switches.
- Accuracy of at least 70%, and 10 headshots
- Give Franklin a shotgun, and leave Michael's special ability on, and the two goals are easy to clear together.
- Rescue Michael within 3 minutes 30 seconds
- Drive to the slaughterhouse without a crash, and clear the first shootout quickly with the shotgun.
- Do not use a map waypoint
- You have to find it from the Trackify signal or your knowledge of the map alone.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, or the time limit runs out and Michael is pulled into the grinder
- The Triads get away
3.42. The Ballad of Rocco
This is a request from Solomon Richards, and it opens after you finish Fresh Meat. Go to Richards Majestic in Backlot City and Rocco Pelosi and his man Gianni are beating Solomon, then the two flee in Rocco's red Fugitive. Take both of them out.
- Taking out Rocco and Gianni
- When the cutscene ends, Michael is standing face to face with Rocco's car as it pulls away. Turn the special ability on at once and shoot Rocco in the driver's seat with the sniper rifle. When Rocco goes down, Gianni gets out of the car, so finish him next.
- If you miss the first shot, you have to find a car and chase them. If Rocco gets away you fail, so do not lose sight of him.
- If you drop both of them right after the start, you skip straight to the last scene. If you take them out at the end of a chase, a goal appears telling you to leave the area, so get well clear first.
- Solomon's invitation
- Solomon calls and asks you to stop by his office. If you do, you see a scene with Michael's name in the credits of the film Solomon is making. The mission is still complete if you turn the invitation down.
- Legal Trouble opens once you finish The Ballad of Rocco, Reuniting the Family, and Architect's Plans.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 3 minutes
- If you end it with the sniper shot as soon as you start, you have plenty of time left.
- Reasons for failure
- Michael dies or is busted, Solomon dies, or Rocco gets away
3.43. The Bureau Raid
This is the heist where you enter FIB headquarters and destroy the material from the corruption investigation into Steve Haines. Trevor sits it out, and only Michael and Franklin go. You pick Fire Crew, where you start a fire and walk in disguised as firefighters, or Roof Entry, where you jump from a helicopter onto the roof.
3.43.1. Overview
- Setup: Cleaning out the Bureau
- It appears as Lester's mission once you finish Fresh Meat. Go to the garment factory as Michael, and Steve Haines and Dave Norton show up and demand that you sneak into FIB headquarters and erase the files.
- Pick Lester up, go to the parking exit at FIB headquarters, and wait for cleaner Harvey Molina's car. Zoom in on the plates of the cars that come out, one by one, and pick out Molina's car.
- Follow Molina to his apartment on Las Lagunas Boulevard in West Vinewood, go in after him, and take his ID and work clothes. Go back to the garment factory and meet Franklin, who is waiting, and it is complete.
- Gold medal
- Check every plate: while you wait for Molina, zoom in on the plate of every car that comes out.
- Follow the cleaner without being spotted: stay at least two car lengths back.
- Finish within 9 minutes: skip every cutscene.
- You fail if Molina gets scared, runs, or dies. You also fail if you lose Lester or a guard spots you.
- Setup: Architect's Plans
- A little after you finish Cleaning out the Bureau, Franklin sends a text. Switch to Franklin and it starts at once, and if you stay on Michael you are forced over when Franklin calls.
- At the Mile High Club construction site downtown, follow architect Chip Peterson and take the bag of blueprints. If you drive onto the site, park in the marked space, and do not stay too close to Peterson.
- Follow him up in the elevator, then take him out, knock him out with a stealth attack, or threaten him with a gun and take the bag. Grab the blueprints, leave the site, and go back to the garment factory.
- At the factory Lester explains the two ways in, and you pick the approach and the crew.
- Gold medal: get off the construction site within 45 seconds
- The fastest way is to take Peterson out, then jump off the roof with a parachute.
- You can also take him out as soon as you enter the site and drive away in Peterson's car. You get a three-star wanted level, but that does not affect the goal.
- You fail if you lose the architect or let him notice you. You also fail if you lose the blueprints.
- Payout
- The $331,985 FIB pays for the operation comes in as it is, and Lester takes 12%. Michael turns down a cut, so only Franklin is paid.
- Franklin's biggest cut is $242,346 on Roof Entry with hacker Rickie, gunman Daryl, and driver Taliana. Fire Crew tops out at $239,028 even if you sacrifice Daryl.
- You have to meet Paige and Taliana in random events before you can pick them. Finishing the heist opens The Wrap Up.
3.43.2. Fire Crew
In this approach you bomb the building to start a fire, then intercept the dispatch call and walk in disguised as firefighters. The setups are a fire truck and a getaway car, and you bring two gunmen.
- Setup: Fire Truck
- You can do it when Lester texts you. Call 911 and take the fire truck that responds, or drive one out of a fire station. Either way you get a one-star wanted level, so lose the police and deliver it to the garment factory.
- Gold medal
- Call 911 and have them send a fire truck
- Deliver the fire truck without a scratch: as Franklin the special ability makes it easy to avoid crashes.
- You fail if you leave the fire truck behind or wreck it.
- Setup: Getaway Vehicle
- Find a four-door car, park it somewhere quiet that is not too close to FIB headquarters, and call Lester to set the spot. He will not take a personal car such as Franklin's Buffalo or Michael's Tailgater, or an emergency vehicle.
- This mission has nothing to fail and no gold medal.
- Crew
- You pick two gunmen. If you bring Gustavo and Packie together, nobody dies during the escape. If a novice gunman such as Norm, Hugh, or Daryl is along, one of them is certain to die.
- Cleaner infiltration
- As Michael, go to FIB headquarters in Pillbox Hill, show Molina's ID, and go up to floor 49. Take a mop and bucket from the cleaning cart and mop the spots marked red on the map.
- Mop the first office and put a bomb in the open locker. The next room has four dirty spots, and when they are all mopped you plant the second bomb in the bathroom. Put the tools back in the cart and leave the building.
- Entering through the fire
- As Franklin in the fire truck, pick Michael up in Pillbox Hill. Before you set off, detonate the bombs from the phone's contact list.
- Drive the fire truck into headquarters. Once you get off on floor 47 the oxygen starts to run down, so keep moving. Follow the crew up to floor 53, stick explosives to the server-room door and blow it, and pull the hard drive.
- Escaping the collapsing building
- As Franklin, follow Michael and the crew down. The moment you break a locked door a backdraft hits, and the novice gunman goes down here. Get the fallen gunman up, or confirm that he is dead, then keep going.
- Franklin is caught in another blast and wakes to find the group one floor below, and FIB agents who have realized you are not firefighters open fire with pistols. Take them out, then rappel down the elevator shaft.
- Leave the building, drive the fire truck to the getaway car, and blow the fire truck up. You fail if you detonate it where people can see. Switch to the getaway car and reach Lester's house, and it is complete.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 18 minutes
- Skip the cutscenes and keep moving to the next goal.
- Escape with at least 40% oxygen left
- Keep moving the whole way out, and do not stop.
- Finish the mopping within 3 minutes
- Mop only the marked spots, and move to the next place as soon as you plant a bomb.
- Get down the elevator shaft within 30 seconds
- Dodge the falling debris and keep going down without a stop.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, Lester or a crew member dies, or you leave the group behind
- The disguise is blown, FIB catches on, or you run out of sticky bombs
- The fire truck is destroyed or stuck, or you destroy the fire truck where people can see
3.43.3. Roof Entry
In this approach you fly the helicopter Steve provides to a point above headquarters and parachute onto the roof. There is no separate setup, and you bring one hacker, one gunman, and one driver.
- Crew
- The driver changes the difficulty the most. Eddie, Taliana, and Karim after you have taken him on The Jewel Store Job once bring the ambulance in time, and you get out with no police chase. An inexperienced Karim shows up late in a Burrito van, and you have to lose a four-star wanted level. Even with an experienced driver, if you open fire your cover is blown and you get the same wanted level.
- The hacker changes the hacking prompts and the sprinklers. Paige tells you the exact order and also shuts the sprinklers off. Christian can do that much only if he worked The Jewel Store Job with you, and an inexperienced Rickie is no help.
- A gunman only changes the weapons he brings and the cover he gives, and whoever you pick, he does not die.
- Helicopter drop
- Go to the garment factory as Michael and Franklin joins you, then the two head for NOOSE headquarters near the Tataviam Mountains beside the Palomino Freeway. You fail if you arrive with a wanted level.
- Once it is midnight, fly the helicopter as Michael to the marked drop point. When the pilot takes the helicopter back, jump and land on the roof of FIB headquarters. You fail if you cannot land on the roof or you open the parachute too late.
- Hacking the server
- Michael cuts through a window, blows the server-room door, and connects his phone to the server terminal.
- On My Computer, open the external device and run HackConnect.exe, then find and pick the combination of four numbers marked in red within 1 minute. Then in BruteForce.exe pick the red letter in each column to finish the password, and run Down&Out.exe.
- Leaving the building
- While the files come in, you have to hold off the security teams that pour in. Partway through, the group's helicopter is hit by a Buzzard's rockets and crashes into the building, and a team with smoke grenades comes in next.
- When the download ends, take out FIB agents on the way out of the building. If the hacker cannot shut the sprinklers off, the water makes it hard to see ahead.
- While you rappel down the outside, a Buzzard with a minigun shows up. Aim for the pilot's head with Michael's special ability, or bring it down with an RPG or a minigun. Rappel the rest of the way and clear the last troops on the ground.
- Get in the driver's car at the pickup, lose the police if they are on you, and go to Franklin's house to finish.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 19 minutes
- An experienced driver removes the time you would spend on the chase.
- Do not kill an innocent civilian
- Shoot only the agents who attack you.
- 20 headshots, and accuracy of at least 70%
- A shotgun together with Michael's special ability is a good way to fill both goals.
- Land exactly in the center area of the roof
- Free-fall for a while, then open the parachute close to the building.
- Hack within 45 seconds
- Follow the hacker's prompts at once, or memorize the order. Turning Michael's special ability on just before you enter the server room is another way.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, Lester or a crew member dies, or you leave the pilot or the group behind
- The police spot you at the NOOSE facility, or the helicopter is destroyed or cannot be flown
- You fail to land on the roof, you open the parachute too late, or FIB catches on
- You run out of explosives, the server terminal or the hacking device is destroyed, or the getaway car is destroyed or stuck
3.44. The Wrap Up
This is a request from Dave Norton, and it opens after you finish The Bureau Raid. Meet Dave at the Kortz Center in Pacific Bluffs, and a shootout breaks out among Steve Haines, Sanchez, IAA agents, an FIB tactical team, and a Merryweather Buzzard. Protect Dave and get out.
- Balcony escape
- When the shootout starts, get out along the balcony as Michael. After you split from Dave, fall back behind cover when the Merryweather Buzzard closes in.
- Trevor's sniping
- The screen switches to Trevor. From high ground across the way, shoot the Buzzard pilot with the sniper rifle and cover Dave as he crosses the courtyard.
- Once Dave reaches cover, you can choose to stay on Trevor or switch back to Michael. As Trevor, take out the FIB agents and the second Merryweather helicopter to open Michael's path, and as Michael you fight your way down to the courtyard yourself.
- The parking garage and Morningwood
- When you reach the parking garage with Dave, Dave leaves on his own and Michael drives out alone. A last Merryweather helicopter sticks with you, so lose it or shoot it down.
- Trevor calls and says to meet behind the pawn shop in Morningwood. You fail if you enter Morningwood with a wanted level, so lose the police first. The mission is complete when you reach the pawn shop.
- If you have also finished Reuniting the Family, Lamar Down opens.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 7 minutes
- 18 headshots
- Shoot down the pursuing helicopter
- When you drive out, you have to bring down the helicopter that follows instead of losing it.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, Dave dies, or you leave Dave behind
- You enter Morningwood with a wanted level
3.45. Reuniting the Family
It opens after you finish Cleaning out the Bureau. It starts at Michael's mansion in Rockford Hills, and with Jimmy, who has come home, you go pick up the scattered family one by one.
- Bean Machine
- Pick Jimmy up and go to the nearby Bean Machine, where Amanda and Fabien are sitting. You fail if you drive into the shop and smash it, so park carefully.
- When the scene ends, Amanda says to meet at Doctor Friedlander's office.
- The tattoo shop
- Tracey is at Blazing Tattoo on Vinewood Boulevard with Lazlow. When you go into the shop, Michael forces piercings and a tattoo on Lazlow, and you choose whether the tattoo goes on his chest or his back.
- The session and the ride home
- Pick up Jimmy and Tracey and go to Doctor Friedlander's office in Pacific Bluffs, where Amanda is waiting. When the session scene ends, load the whole family in and go back to the mansion. It is complete when you arrive.
- You can hang out with Amanda and Jimmy as Michael again, and you can use the mansion's tennis court again. Doting Dad opens, and so does Trevor's Strangers and Freaks mission Exercising Demons.
- Legal Trouble and Lamar Down stay locked until you also finish their other prerequisite missions.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 10 minutes 30 seconds
- Skip every cutscene.
- Reasons for failure
- Michael dies or is busted, Amanda, Jimmy, or Tracey dies, or Fabien or Lazlow dies
- You smash the Bean Machine, you scare Amanda, or you leave the family behind
3.46. Legal Trouble
This is a request from Solomon Richards, and it opens once you finish The Ballad of Rocco, Reuniting the Family, and Architect's Plans. In Solomon's office, Devin's lawyer Molly Schultz snatches the Meltdown film and flees to the airport, and Michael chases her to get the film back.
- Airport chase
- Drive toward Los Santos International Airport and you see Molly running with a police escort. If the gap gets too wide, a warning says Molly is getting away, and if you lose her for good you fail.
- Partway through, a Weazel News helicopter covers the chase. The key shown in the on-screen prompt turns the news-helicopter camera view on and off.
- Once you reach the runway, scripted crashes follow one after another, including a truck exploding and police cars thrown by a plane's jet wash. Watch the road ahead and keep up.
- If you chase in a plane or a helicopter, a notice says the airport is restricted airspace, and you fail if you fly in anyway. Find another vehicle and keep chasing.
- Getting the film and getting out
- Molly parks at Devin's hangar, runs inside, and is sucked into a jet engine. You fail if Molly dies before she reaches the hangar.
- Pick up the dropped film and you get a three-star wanted level. The Shamal near the hangar entrance gets you out fast, but it takes about 8 seconds to start, so deal with the approaching police first. Lose the police and it is complete.
- When you finish, the FlyUS stock price drops, and after you finish Meltdown it rises by more than it did before. If you have also finished Lamar Down, Meltdown opens.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 5 minutes 30 seconds
- Skip the cutscene and escape in the Shamal.
- Reach top speed in any car
- It fills on its own if you just keep the crashes down. A motorcycle such as the Bati 801 makes it easier.
- Lose the wanted level within 2 minutes
- Taking the Shamal and climbing away is the fastest.
- Watch the Weazel News camera for 15 seconds
- Turn it on inside the airport, where there is room, and a crash is less of a worry.
- Reasons for failure
- Michael dies or is busted, Molly gets away, or Molly dies before she reaches the hangar
- You fly into the restricted airspace, or you leave the film behind
3.47. Lamar Down
It opens after you finish The Wrap Up and Reuniting the Family. It starts at Franklin's house in Vinewood Hills, and the three protagonists rescue Lamar together after the Ballas grab him at the sawmill in Paleto Forest.
- The road to the sawmill
- As Franklin, you drive a long way to the sawmill. On the way Franklin asks Lester to call Michael and Trevor in.
- Near the Lost Trailer Park, get onto the railway and follow the tracks, and you reach the sawmill sooner. You can use the same road on the way back.
- You fail if you arrive at the sawmill with a wanted level.
- Going in
- Once the three are together, Michael takes the sniping from a distance, and Franklin and Trevor each go to an entry point. Attack the sawmill at once instead of following the yellow marker, and you skip the scouting cutscene.
- Take out Ballas gangsters as you look for Lamar, then take Lamar out to the sawmill exit.
- Taking Lamar home
- Once you are out, Franklin drives Lamar home. It is complete when you arrive, and if you have also finished Legal Trouble, Meltdown opens.
- Gold medal
- 18 headshots, and accuracy of at least 70%
- Clear as many as you can as Michael, from a hidden sniper spot and with the special ability. When you fight on the ground, a shotgun is good for keeping accuracy up.
- Kill an enemy as all three protagonists
- Finish within 13 minutes 30 seconds
- Skip the cutscenes and use the railway shortcut, and you cut off more than a minute. You can also go in Franklin's Bagger, but the way back is slower because Lamar rides with you.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, Lamar dies, or you leave Lamar behind
- You arrive at the sawmill with a wanted level, or Michael's car or Trevor's truck is destroyed
3.48. Meltdown
It opens after you finish Legal Trouble and Lamar Down. It starts as you put on a tuxedo for the premiere at Ponsonbys on Portola Drive, and at the premiere Michael learns his family is in danger, goes home, and holds off Merryweather mercenaries.
- The tuxedo and the limousine
- Buy a tuxedo at Ponsonbys and put it on. If you already bought one, you only have to change into it. You fail if you walk in holding a weapon, or you walk in with a wanted level and startle the clerk.
- When you leave the shop, Jimmy arrives in a chauffeured limousine. Take the limousine to the Oriental Theater on Vinewood Boulevard, and you can skip the ride. You fail if the limousine is wrecked or the driver dies.
- On the red carpet, Devin hints that something has happened to the family.
- Racing home
- Hurry back to the mansion in Rockford Hills with Jimmy. You fail if you do not save the family in time, and you also fail if you bring the police to the house.
- Rescuing the hostages
- Inside the house, Merryweather mercenaries are holding Amanda and Tracey hostage. A miss and the mercenary shoots the hostage, so turn Michael's special ability on and aim for the head.
- After you save both of them, take out every mercenary inside and outside the house and go back to the family, and it is complete.
- Until you finish the last story mission, the family and the housekeeper do not appear at the mansion. Michael and Franklin get a tuxedo, and you can watch Meltdown at the movie theater. The Big Score planning and Parenting 101 open.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 6 minutes 30 seconds
- Skip every cutscene.
- Reach top speed in any vehicle
- On the way home, drive the Vacca along Spanish Avenue. It has far less traffic and far fewer pedestrians than Vinewood Boulevard or Eclipse Boulevard.
- 12 headshots
- Michael's special ability makes the fight inside the house easier.
- Save Amanda and Tracey with headshots
- Reasons for failure
- Michael, Jimmy, Amanda, or Tracey dies, or Michael is busted
- You startle the Ponsonbys clerk, the limousine is destroyed, or the limousine driver dies
- You miss the premiere or ruin it, or you lead the police to the house
- You fail to save the family in time, or you leave the family behind
3.49. The Big Score
This is the last heist, and you rob the gold from the Union Depository vault. All three protagonists take part, and Lester is in on the plan too. You pick Subtle, where you intercept the cash trucks and walk in disguised as guards, or Obvious, where you cut through the vault wall and fly the gold out by helicopter.
3.49.1. Overview
- Planning the job
- After you finish Meltdown, go to the Vanilla Unicorn and the four of them meet to plan the job. It is effectively a mission made of choice scenes, and here you pick the approach and the crew.
- Lester takes 12% either way. The cut comes in after you finish the last mission, not right after the heist.
- Comparing the two approaches
- Obvious needs no hacker, so the crew is one person smaller, and the $300,000 for Casey does not go out either. Each protagonist is paid about $6,000,000 more for that, but you have to lose a five-star wanted level after a long shootout.
- The total take is $201,600,000. Subtle leaves $201,300,000 after Casey's cut. One protagonist's biggest cut is $35,563,000 on Subtle and $41,664,000 on Obvious.
- Shared by both approaches
- Using an inexperienced Karim as driver 1 is a heavy loss either way. Put Karim in the driver 2 seat.
- You have to meet Packie and Taliana in random events before you can pick them.
- Finishing the heist lets you buy the advanced rifle at Ammu-Nation.
3.49.2. Subtle
In this approach you disguise yourselves as Gruppe Sechs guards, intercept two cash trucks, take the gold from the bank, and leave the city in modified Gauntlets. You need two gunmen, two drivers, and one hacker.
- Setup: Stingers
- Right after planning, Lester texts you the location of a Police Transporter loaded with spike strips. Climb the wall, quietly knock out the police patrolling around the van, and take the van.
- Park the van at the hideout under the Olympic Freeway behind the strip club, get out, and it is complete. You fail if the van is wrecked.
- Gold medal
- Steal the Police Transporter and get away within 2 minutes: drive it out unseen and there is no chase at all. As Michael or Trevor, the police will not stop you if you go in a highway patrol outfit.
- Deliver the Police Transporter without a scratch
- Setup: Gauntlet
- Lester emails you the locations of three Gauntlets. They are the top of the parking garage in Pillbox Hill, behind Vangelico in Rockford Hills, and in front of the Templar Hotel southeast of Legion Square in Mission Row. The car in front of the Templar Hotel is dirty and costs $54 to repair.
- Take them to Los Santos Customs one at a time, buy the modifications shown on screen, and put each one in a nearby garage. There is no time limit, and a Gauntlet other than the marked cars is accepted too.
- You fail if a Gauntlet is wrecked or stuck, and the same if you abandon one. You also fail if you cannot afford the modifications.
- Gold medal
- Bring the Gauntlets from the photos in the email
- Deliver them without a scratch: a scratch from the drive before the modifications also breaks the goal. Use the Los Santos Customs nearest the garage, on the airport side.
- Spend at least $17,000 on modifications: buying every modification you are told to buy costs $20,000.
- Crew
- Gunman 1 helps load the gold. Anyone other than Gustavo, Packie, or Chef drops some of the gold. Gunman 2 can be anyone.
- Driver 1 drives one of the Gauntlets loaded with gold. An inexperienced Karim spills gold and is caught by the police during the escape, and you lose a quarter of it. Driver 2 changes the tires and drives the truck.
- The hacker sets the delay when the lights change. Paige has no delay, Christian has 2 seconds, and Rickie has 4 seconds. It shrinks as heist experience adds up, and even Rickie has no delay if he has been through both The Jewel Store Job and The Bureau Raid.
- The combination that pays the most is hacker Rickie, drivers Karim and Taliana, and gunmen Packie or Chef, and Daryl.
- Taking the trucks
- When the cutscene ends, drive to the tunnel entrance before 8 in the morning. The current time is at the bottom right of the screen.
- When the two cash trucks enter the tunnel, lay the spike strips before they leave and wait off to the side. When the tires blow and they stop, aim at the windows and pull the guards out, and a crew member from the van that followed changes the tires.
- Pick up guard Casey and go to the underground garage of the Union Depository. Follow the branch manager down in the elevator, where the gold carts are, and Trevor and Casey wheel the carts out. Get in the second truck and follow Trevor out.
- You fail if you hurt a guard or a bank employee, or if you raise suspicion. You also fail if a truck is too badly damaged to pass the checkpoint.
- Hacking the lights
- Merryweather notices the gold is gone and gives chase. Switch to Franklin and use the laptop to work the lights, turning the signal in front of the Merryweather vehicles red. You fail if Merryweather spots the trucks.
- Moving the gold
- At the hideout, Merryweather troops hit while you move the gold into four Gauntlets. Protect the crew and take them all out.
- Michael and Trevor fight with full body armor thanks to the guard outfits. Franklin is unprotected unless you bought body armor ahead of time, so be careful when you switch to him.
- Gauntlet escape
- As Franklin, drive one Gauntlet and follow the group. Ignore the police and stay on the route. You fail if you fall so far behind that you lose the group.
- After the scene at Rockford Plaza where a police car rams a tanker and it explodes, you get onto the freeway. If an inexperienced Karim is driver 1, the police block him around here, and if Franklin takes out the police in the way, Karim gets away on his own and you recover the cut you were about to lose.
- You have to drive onto the trailer waiting inside the tunnel before the tunnel ends. If driver 2 is clumsy, the trailer sways from side to side, so use Franklin's special ability.
- Once you are hidden in the trailer, the police lose the group. Switch to the Cavalcade and reach Michael's house, and it is complete.
- Gold medal
- 20 headshots, and accuracy of at least 60%
- Aim for the head, or use a shotgun, and you can fill both goals.
- Change the lights fewer than 10 times
- Stop only enemies that get close to the trucks. The count keeps adding up if you retry.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, Lester, a crew member, or the truck driver dies, or you leave the group behind
- You reach the tunnel late, you fail to lay the spike strips in time, or the trucks avoid them
- You raise a guard's or a bank employee's suspicion, a guard or a bank employee dies or is hurt, or a truck is too badly damaged or reaches the bank late
- Merryweather spots you, a Gauntlet or a truck is destroyed, Franklin loses the group, or you fail to load onto the truck in time
3.49.3. Obvious
In this approach you cut through the vault wall from underground with a Cutter, then hang the gold from helicopters and move it to a train running outside the city. You bring two drivers and two gunmen, and you do not use a hacker.
- Setup: Driller
- Lester tells you a Cutter has come into a warehouse in East Los Santos. There are a lot of guards, so knock them all out in stealth mode and then get in the truck carrying the Cutter. If even one guard is left when you get in, you are spotted at once. Being spotted does not fail the mission, and you only miss the gold medal.
- Drive the truck out and hand the Cutter over in the parking lot near the Union Depository, and it is complete. You fail if the Cutter or the truck is wrecked or stuck, and you also fail if you kill the parking-lot contact.
- Gold medal
- Steal the Cutter without being spotted
- Finish within 5 minutes: bring a suppressed sniper rifle. Climb onto the roof by the ramp just south of the west entrance, and work from the workers on the east toward the middle, one at a time. Come down to the ground for the workers along the south edge and the guard at the west entrance, and save them for last, and the two workers who are talking have to be dropped together.
- Setup: Sidetracked
- One of you quietly knocks out two railway workers at Davis Quartz, switches the track from the cabin, and waits for the train. If you start as Michael or Franklin, Trevor flies the Skylift, and if you start as Trevor, Michael flies it.
- When the train stops, use the Skylift to stick the locomotive and then the flatbed to the magnet, one after the other, and set them down on the truck at Sandy Shores Airfield. The magnet only grabs when you line the direction up directly above the car.
- You fail if the police catch on or you miss the train. The same if the Skylift or the truck is wrecked, or you leave the mission area.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 4 minutes 30 seconds: take the workers out with the sniper rifle, and move by vehicle inside the quarry. When you move the cars, flying low is faster.
- Steal the train without being spotted: take the workers out with a melee weapon, a sniper rifle, or a suppressed weapon.
- Setup: Getaway Vehicle
- Find a four-door car and call Lester, and he has you park it in the underground garage of the Arcadius Business Center, at a spot he chooses. You cannot use a protagonist's personal car or an emergency vehicle.
- In the job itself you take a five-star wanted level plus gunfire from FIB Grangers and NOOSE, so bulletproof tires are worth fitting, and it is better to raise armor, engine, and brakes as far as they go. There is nothing to fail and no gold medal, and after the heist the car reappears in the same spot with the modifications intact.
- Crew
- Driver 1 flies the second gold helicopter. An inexperienced Karim crashes at the wind farm and you lose half the gold, so put him in the driver 2 seat, driving the train. Other drivers can crash too if they are late bringing down the Merryweather helicopters.
- Gunman 1 helps Franklin in the vault, and whoever you pick, he does his share. Gunman 2 faces the police with Michael, and Karl, Norm, Hugh, and Daryl help less and may need protecting. Norm, Hugh, and Daryl are much better if they have Bureau Raid experience.
- The combination that pays the most is drivers Taliana and Karim, and gunmen Daryl and Norm or Hugh.
- Cutting into the vault
- While Michael picks up gunman 2 and goes to the front of the bank to draw the police, drive the Cutter as Franklin and cut a large hole in the vault wall.
- Park the Cutter off to the side of the wall, stick sticky bombs to both vault doors, then step back and detonate them. You fail if you run out of sticky bombs, or the Cutter is destroyed while it is blocking the way.
- Hold off the NOOSE troops rappelling down and cover gunman 1 until he moves the gold carts. A rifle with an extended magazine, or a minigun that does not need a reload, is useful.
- The shootout in front of the bank
- When the second cart gets stuck, Trevor flies off toward Blaine County with the gold hanging under him, and gunman 1 gets out on his own. Switch to Michael and a long shootout with the police continues in front of the bank, so spend health and ammo carefully.
- When a Buzzard shows up, it aims rockets at the group. Bring it down quickly with an RPG or a minigun. The police never stop coming, so do not try to get them all, and move forward when you hear your partner's lines.
- NOOSE Grangers burst into the underground garage where the getaway car is. Break the vehicles with RPGs, grenades, or sticky bombs, but do not hit the getaway car.
- Switch to Franklin before you get in the car, and you can use the special ability while driving. It takes about 1 to 2 minutes for the five-star wanted level to clear, so it is better to hide underground, such as in a sewer or the subway.
- Helicopter escort
- When the wanted level clears, switch to Trevor and follow the pilot ahead of you. When Merryweather helicopters show up, hold your helicopter steady so Lester can fire the RPG, and be especially careful as you pass the wind farm.
- You fail if the hanging cargo drops, and you also fail if you are late dealing with the Merryweather helicopters and the other pilot crashes.
- Once every helicopter is down, find the train on the radar, set the gold down on the flatbed, and land in the hangar at McKenzie Field to finish.
- Gold medal
- 20 headshots, and accuracy of at least 60%
- Finish within 16 minutes
- Skip every cutscene.
- Set the gold down on the train within 30 seconds
- Set it down before the train passes under the quarry bridge, or just after it has passed.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, Lester or a crew member dies, or you leave the group behind
- The bank catches on before the job, the Cutter gets stuck or is destroyed while blocking the way, or you run out of sticky bombs
- A helicopter is destroyed while loading the gold, the cargo falls off a helicopter, or you leave the gold or a helicopter behind
- The getaway car, Franklin's car, or Trevor's truck is destroyed, or Merryweather follows you to the rendezvous
3.50. The Finale
After you finish The Big Score, the last mission appears at Franklin's house. Once Devin Weston, who came to see him, leaves, Franklin picks one of three choices on his phone, and the last mission splits into three from that choice.
3.50.1. Overview
- The choices
- Pick Kill Trevor and Something Sensible starts, pick Kill Michael and The Time's Come starts, and pick Deathwish and The Third Way starts.
- The ending the story continues from is The Third Way.
- Before you start
- If you pick Something Sensible you cannot play as Trevor afterward, and if you pick The Time's Come you cannot play as Michael. If that character still has a rare car or an activity only he can do, clear it first. Missions exclusive to the two of them are not required for 100% completion.
- If you still have things to do, do not take Franklin home. The last mission starts the moment you arrive.
- The pay
- Who gets paid for The Big Score depends on the ending. Something Sensible pays Michael and Franklin, The Time's Come pays Trevor and Franklin, and The Third Way pays all three.
3.50.2. Something Sensible
This is the ending where you kill Trevor. Franklin lures Trevor out to the oil fields on the edge of El Burro Heights, and he also asks Michael for help.
- Chasing Trevor
- Aim a gun at him and Trevor flees in his truck. Follow him through a chase that runs around the city and out to the oil fields, and do not lose him.
- As you get close to the oil fields, Michael rams Trevor's truck with a stolen Premier.
- The finish
- The truck hits a fuel tank and gasoline spills, so shoot the pooled gasoline. If you hesitate, Michael shoots it instead. When Trevor dies, it is complete and the end credits roll.
- Gold medal
- Kill Trevor
- Reasons for failure
- Franklin dies, Michael dies, Trevor gets away, or the car you are in is destroyed
3.50.3. The Time's Come
This is the ending where you kill Michael. Franklin lures Michael out to the satellite dish complex beside Route 68. He asks Trevor for help, but Trevor refuses.
- The railway chase
- When the talk ends, Michael flees in the Tailgater and drives along the nearby railway. Follow him and do not lose him. You fail if Michael gets clean away.
- The chase ends at Palmer-Taylor Power Station.
- The power station
- On foot, climb the scaffolding up to the chimney passage. Michael shoots at you now and then, so follow from cover.
- After a fight, Michael is hanging outside the railing, and you choose whether to drop him or pull him up. Whichever you pick, Michael falls and dies, and the mission is complete.
- Gold medal
- Kill Michael
- Reasons for failure
- Franklin dies or is busted, or Michael gets away
3.50.4. The Third Way
This is the ending where you keep both Michael and Trevor alive. Call Lester, and following the plan made at his house you draw the FIB and Merryweather forces into the foundry and deal with them, then take out the four people who were after the three protagonists, one by one.
- The foundry ambush
- As Franklin, go to Lamar's house, pick Lamar up, and go to the foundry. Lamar keeps watch outside, and Franklin meets Michael and Trevor inside.
- When you are ready, ambush the FIB agents as they come in. Michael has a Heavy Sniper, and Trevor has a Combat MG.
- When Lamar calls for help, go to the entrance as Franklin and take out the enemies attacking Lamar. You fail if Lamar dies.
- If Trevor does not answer, fight your way to Trevor's position as Michael. If you are late, Trevor dies and you fail.
- Michael and Trevor go outside, clear the remaining FIB and Merryweather forces with Franklin, and meet in front of the main gate.
- Dealing with the targets
- When Lester gives you the locations, the three split up. The order is up to you, but each target has an assigned person, and you fail if another character approaches or kills that target.
- Michael: take Stretch out at the basketball court beside the BJ Smith Recreation Center, then lose the Ballas who come at you.
- Trevor: snipe Steve Haines from a distance while he films a show inside the Ferris wheel at Del Perro Pier. If you get too close or miss several times, Haines notices and you fail. After the shot, lose the two-star wanted level.
- Franklin: hit Wei Cheng's motorcade as it leaves the Pacific Bluffs Country Club. Cheng rides in a black Washington, with two Cavalcades as escort. Destroy Cheng's car with a sticky bomb, a minigun, or an RPG before it leaves the parking lot, and you can skip the freeway chase, then lose the Triads.
- Kidnapping Devin
- Whichever moment you take Haines out, Trevor is the one who kidnaps Devin. Quietly knock out the eight Merryweather guards at Devin's mansion in Tongva Hills, or take them out head-on.
- Grab Devin, who is hiding in a crate near the pool, load him into the trunk of Devin's Tornado, and go to the cliff in the Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness. Before that, you fail if Devin dies or the Tornado is wrecked or stuck, and you also fail if you draw police attention at the mansion.
- At the cliff the three of them push the Tornado off together, and it is complete. Afterward Michael and Trevor can hang out again.
- Gold medal
- Finish within 21 minutes 30 seconds
- Skip the cutscenes, and take the targets in the order Michael, Trevor, Franklin. If Trevor takes Haines out last, you have to lose the wanted level and then drive a long way to Devin's mansion.
- You do not have to sneak into Devin's mansion, and you can just take out the guards along the way as you go.
- 20 headshots, and accuracy of at least 70%
- Use a pump shotgun or a pistol, and add Michael's and Trevor's special abilities.
- Kill Cheng with a sticky bomb
- Turn Franklin's special ability on and throw, and it is easier to hit.
- Kill Steve Haines with a headshot
- Use the Heavy Sniper. Before the cutscene starts the Ferris wheel does not move, so park on the bridge, stand on the trunk of the car, and shoot, and you save both time and accuracy.
- Kill Stretch with a melee attack
- Use a melee weapon such as the knife.
- Reasons for failure
- A protagonist dies or is busted, Lamar dies, you leave Lamar behind, or you abandon the fight
- A character who is not assigned is spotted by a target or kills a target, you lose Stretch or Cheng, you leave Haines behind, or Trevor misses his chance to snipe Haines
- You draw police attention at Devin's mansion, Devin dies before he is dealt with properly, you leave Devin or Devin's car behind, or Devin's car is destroyed or stuck
